11 Things About Boring Old Me

June 1, 2012

Well, I wasn’t going to write anything today because my schedule is CRAZEEEEE and I’m feeling a bit rushed. But I have a lull before I have to cook dinner, look over my son’s schoolwork, and plant the garden…. yeah, I’m exhausted just thinking about it. Nothing like a good dose of procrastination to spice things up!

Teresa tagged me with the 11 Things About Me meme, which looks so cute. Be warned– I’m actually going to tag some of you so get ready, haha! I’ll cut to the chase.

# 1 – You must post these rules.
# 2 – You must post 11 things about yourself.
# 3 – You must answer the questions from the tagger AND post 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer. Please use the same questions that I was asked. šŸ™‚ I put them in their own list in bold for easy copy and pasting.
# 4 – You must choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post. Let them know they’ve been tagged! Don’t tag back the blog that tagged you.

11 Things About Me (boring old me):
1. It’s hard for me to think about things pertaining to “me.” You probably know these already! That’s one. hehehehe
2. I prefer shady forests to open meadows.
3. I’m not a bossy person unless I know what I am doing. Then, look out.
4. I hate to cook.
5. I like tinkering with electricity. I wired my entire house when we renovated the downstairs. I’m pretty happy I was able to do that. My step-dad was an electronics repair man (TVs, mostly) when I was young, so maybe I picked up the interest from him.
6. I love birds. And cats. But not together.
7. I LOVE half-Siamese cats. They are the only breed of cat I will ever get, although I am willing to raise an Abyssinian if I was given one.
8. I don’t like grocery shopping. I hate it, actually. When the kids can drive, I’m sending them to do it.
9. I prefer foods with protein, not carbohydrates, for breakfast. A long time ago, so I read, people used to eat eggs and steak and bacon with pancakes or oatmeal for breakfast. But a dude named Kellogg wanted to market the mid-west graineries, so he created “breakfast cereal.” Millions of housewives preferred easy-prep cereal breakfast to the cook-a-thon steak and eggs, so breakfast cereal won the day. But cereals are loaded with carbohydrates which elevate blood sugar and give you that “brain crash” after a few hours. I say we get back to steak and eggs!
10. I never used to be “brand conscious” as a young lady, but now that I am older, I definitely prefer brand name products (HP, Toro, etc.). They seem more reliable and are a HECK of a lot easier to ship back for repairs or refunds than the cheapo Chinese stuff.
11. I pray with my daughters 5 times a week. We pray for you guys šŸ™‚ as well as other people throughout the world. Your kingdom come, O Lord, on earth as it is in heaven. šŸ™‚

11 Questions

1) What is the best food on a hot summer day?

Hamburgers and watermelon.

2) If you had an extra room in your house, how would you use it?

As a family room. Right now, everything is crammed into the dining room and living room. The living room technically is an office, where I work and where the kids do school.

3) What is the strangest food you have ever eaten?

Wow. I’m sure I can think of something if I think hard enough…. calamari? those little squids in Chinese restaurants? Yuk. I didn’t like them. They still had their eyes and they were squeaky between my teeth. Plus they just looked…. alive.

4) What do you remember about your first day of school?

I don’t. At all.

5) What Olympic sport would you like to try?

The slalom. I love a good laugh. Needless to say, it’s probably be my last one.

6) Do you prefer sunrises or sunsets? Why?

Sunrises. They are prettier and I’m usually conscious and coherent at that time. Usually.

7) Where is the farthest you have ever traveled?

Florida. Only once. Didn’t like it ONE bit, although the Gulf of Mexico was stunning.

8) Have you ever been mentioned in the newspaper?

Lots of times. I don’t know what it is, but I tend to attract the media. My kids do, too. One year we went on a trip to a museum. The local newspaper was there, too, for a story they were doing. They wanted to snap photos of my kids, so they got in the paper. A couple of months later, we randomly went out to a different museum. The SAME newspaper was there, wanting to take photos of the kids! So they got in the paper again! This happened at least TWO MORE times that I can think of. We were practically on a first-name basis with the reporter and camera girl.

I’ve even been interviewed by The Wall Street Journal about a post I did on Queue Method Checkouts. I was interviewed by TIME about pro-blogging (but I don’t know if they used my quotes in their magazine). I’ve been interviewed by the Associated Press about FTC policy on blogging, and iMedia on professional blogging. I don’t know what it is about us getting in the media. I can’t say I have a high regard for much of the media, so I consider it all with a bit of hesitation.

9) What do you miss from your childhood?

Being carefree, spending all summer outside investigating the backyard. I also miss being able to get out of bed without groaning and being able to digest anything without my stomach complaining.

10) Share a favorite picture of yourself, and tell us about it.

A picture.

I don’t advertise myself online at all, preferring to remain pictureless (see #8!). I’m also not very pretty and so I don’t like to advertise that fact, either. BUT in the spirit of the meme, I will share a photo of myself.

It’s me in a pose that I often strike while composing my blog posts. Yessssss. šŸ˜Ž

11) What habit would you like to be able to break?

Freaking out when I’m in heavy traffic.

Now I get to tag some of you and grill you with some questions! I’m going to be merciless, since I have to plant an entire garden am therefore determined to procrastinate! HAHA!

I shall tag:

Oy, okay, I’m a little confused on the rules though lol

Do I answer the 11 questions that you answered or are you supposed to ask me 11 questions or can I pick my own lmao

    • Rebecca Says:

It IS a little confusing. It seemed more like 22 questions to me! I think there are 11 things you simply come up with, and then you answer my 11 questions. And after ALL THAT, you have to ASK 11 questions! :-p It’s a good thing I had time to do this, but it took me 3 days. It was kind of fun trying to come up with stuff, though.

    • Rebecca Says:

Sorry about the confusion. I’d forgotten to put the list in an easily copied&pasted column! Yes, please answer the same Qs. šŸ™‚ THANKS!

  2. Secondary Roads Says:

I have the same question. I don’t understand how you can say that you are not pretty when you have such lovely eyebrows. I’m starting to work on the post. :pcpow:

  3. Rena Says:

I just did the posting, thanks for tagging. I actually think these are fun.

I am doing well, haven’t been in a blogging mood I guess. Little by little, I am getting the house out of clutter. I have a tendency to keep things thinking that someday I may need it or use it. I am far from a pat rack but I hate having so many things on the kitchen counters, my dresser and any other place that loves to collect stuff lol.

How are you all doing? You can send me a message on facebook if you wish to write anything private.

    God bless! :frolic:

  4. Susi Says:

First, thanks for thinking of me and tagging me. Please, don’t be upset if I only do the questions… I’ve been tagged quite a few times already and don’t know if I can pull off 11 more things about myself or tag 11 people that haven’t been tagged already by me or someone else!!! I can’t believe you didn’t like Florida. You have got to come visit and I’ll show you a good time!!! šŸ™‚ You’ll love Florida after that.

  5. lin Says:

Okay, give me a day or two. I’ll play along!

  6. Karen and Gerard Says:

    Cute picture!
Thanks for thinking of me and I will begin working on this. However, since you didn’t follow the directions completely by not coming up with some new questions for us, I will do that but not tag 11 people. That just takes way too long so I’ll just open it for anyone who’d like to do it. We’re just a couple rebels, aren’t we?
