People from other countries sometimes complain that we Americans are consumed with our weather. Well, this is a historic tradition. Thomas Jefferson and George Washington kept meticulous weather journals. Jefferson measured rainfall, weather conditions, and blooming times of his garden plants, year after year. Our country has always been a very agricultural nation, so monitoring the weather helps us with our farms.
So, yes, I guess you could say that we Americans are consumed with our weather. Especially when we have weather like this:


Those are tornadoes taken from storms in our MidWest. We even have groups of Americans who hop in cars and trucks, chasing these storms and getting as close as they can to take photographs and study patterns. In the Northeast, we often experience similar cyclonish storms– snowstorms called Nor’Easters that can dump as much as 20 feet of snow in one storm.
