A Creative Way To Support Our Soldiers

September 16, 2008

I have a few relatives overseas, on duty in Iraq and Afghanistan. I also come from a very long line of relatives who have proudly defended our country for centuries. But how I hate to see our young men and women go off to war! I think they don’t like it, either. Like Douglas MacArthur said, “No one hates war more than the soldier… The soldier, above all other people, prays for peace, for he must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.” But they are soldiers, and they do their duty.

We at home can do things to help our countrymen abroad- even the smallest thing- can give a smile and a shot of encouragement to a soldier. Groups like the Soldiers’ Angels (their motto is “May no soldier go unloved”) are volunteer led, and, true to their motto no matter their views on the war, have pledged to support and encourage the hundreds of thousands of young people deployed to foreign countries. I think it’s a noble effort. Did you know that Soldiers’ Angels sent out 180,000 care packages to our troops for the holidays? That’s really neat! It included 180,000 holiday cards from The Gallery Collection, too! I love their cards, and I think it’s a really noble thing to donate something like that to our soldiers, to help them realize that they are not alone. The holidays are really tough for the troops. I applaud The Gallery Collection for doing this. They do have exquisite personalized holiday cards in very classy designs. I like them because they can be customized and they are so beautiful.

I try to support groups and companies that volunteer their services to bring comfort and aid to our soldiers. Now that I know The Gallery Collection has pledged to comfort those in need, they’ve got my support! <
