Blogs Down AGAIN

July 26, 2008

Dear Diary

GRRRRRR. If you are trying to access my other websites, New York, New York Renovator, and Mrs. Mecomber’s Scrapbook… they’re down again. šŸ™

Oh, I just checked and now they are up. But my template to New York is a little screwy. Wha? Any geeks out there have any suggestions? I contacted my webhost (Bluehost) and asked them why my template was messy. They said that when the server was down and restored, the company must have used a backup form to restore my blog. But… these changes in my template are not from backups. The only way these things could have been altered is for someone to tinker with my stylesheet of my blog theme. Is this possible??

I don’t know what it is with me and things like this. I always seem to have problems when everyone else is sailing smooth waters and tech help is more concerned with sexy shoes. šŸ™

UPDATE: Bluehost informed that they did not have to restore anything with backups. So…. how did my template get changed? And why?

As soon as I saw the title in my Google reader, I had to click to see if you were talking about Bluehost, and you totally were! HA! I got so frustrated with Bluehost. I finally switched everything over from them a few weeks ago. My blog went down at LEAST once a day. It was sooooooooo frustrating. Anyway, I am using a friend of mine now ( and couldn’t be happier. It is more expensive though. Good luck with ickyhost!

You too?!?! You are the first person I’ve heard of who has had problems with them. All my pals say they have very minimal problems. Maybe my blogs were put on a defunct server or something?!? Things aren’t as bad as every day for me, more like every week or two it’s down.

They said I may have a beefy template that clogs things up, so I got a new template for my New York Traveler. It’s light and airy, so hopefully that will fix it!

Bluehost is inexpensive, and they do have a great tech support team. That’s why I went with them. I’ve recommended them to a few friends of mine, and now I feel embarrassed. I hope it’s just a quirky template kind of thing. We’ll see.

Hi Rebecca – If you read the page linked to my name you can see my hosting travails. Bluehost is a good company for shared hosting if you have simple setups and not a lot of traffic. Once you start getting busy they often will give you the dreaded CPU Exceeded Error. Is that the error you are getting? Many people like them, but lots complain.

I have only one recommendation for inexpensive shared hosting and it is explained on the page linked above. I like them so much, I put all my sites on their service and signed up as an affiliate. So you know if I am putting my name on the line recommending them, they are good. I am a fussy customer! If they ever let their customer service slip, I will be the first to know and they will be gone from my A-list in the wink of an eye!

Yeah the funny thing is I set my sister up with Bluehost for her blog, and hers NEVER goes down, but mine would be down at least once a day and sometimes for an hour at a time. Especially when I’d have a spike in traffic too, which was really annoying. I called and asked them to switch my server, because as they could see, I was calling every day and they said they would not. So I said fine then I’m switching… bye! It was a pain to switch, but I’m much happier now. šŸ™‚ I love your blog by the way (just love the leafy design!)
