Oh I read this story at Hailey’s Beats and Bits and HAD to keep the ball rolling. What an incredible story!
— The Best Gift Ever —
A young man was getting ready to graduate from college.
For many months he had admired a beautiful sports car in a dealer’s showroom and knowing his father could well afford it, he told him that was all he wanted. As Graduation Day approached, the young man awaited signs that his father had
purchased the car.
Finally, on the morning of his graduation his father called him into his private study. His father told him how proud he was to have such a fine son, and told him how much he loved him. He handed his son a beautiful wrapped gift box. Curious, but somewhat disappointed, the young man opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the young man’s name embossed in gold. Angrily, he raised his voice to his father and said, “With all your money you give me a Bible?” And stormed out of the house, leaving the Bible.
Many years passed and the young man was very successful in business. He had a beautiful home and wonderful family, but realized his father was very old and thought perhaps he should go to him. He had not seen him since that graduation day. Before he could make arrangements, he received a telegram telling him his father had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to his son. He needed to come home immediately and take care of things. When he arrived at his father’s house, sudden sadness and regret filled his heart.
He began to search through his father’s important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as he had left it years ago. With tears, he opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. His father had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11, “And if ye, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?” As he read those words, a car key dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a tag with the dealer’s name, the same dealer who had the sports car he had desired. On the tag was the date of his graduation, and the words…
PAID IN FULL.
How many times do we miss God’s blessing because they are not packaged as we expected? I trust you enjoyed this. Pass it on to others. Do not spoil what you have by desiring what you have not; but remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for…

School’s out and we’ve nothing to do, all of a sudden. Someone please tell me why kids moan and groan about homework all year and then when summer comes, they are “bored”? So we’re trying to think of cool things to do without spending all our life savings on gasoline. I just found out today that we may be able to get some complimentary tickets to the Baseball Hall of Fame in nearby Cooperstown, NY.
That would be so much fun! We’ve never been there. I’m not a huge baseball fan but if it’s free– hey, why not!
I’ve always preferred what I call the “finer” sports– gymnastics, ice skating, and tennis. There is an elegance to these sports, something not found with, for example, football, where men are pounding into each other while they chase a ball. :S
When I was a very young lass, I never missed the gymnastics competitions of the Olympics, and I never missed the televised tennis Wimbledon games. How I remember Billie Jean King and her fabulous, athletic style! I’d LOOOOVE to go to the UK– to Wimbledon– to see the matches live. I’d love to daintily eat the strawberries and cream and perhaps get a glimpse of the royal family in the seats. Someday we really are going to go to the UK (I want to research my genealogy), and I’ve heard that Wimbledon debenture tickets are easily obtained. The tickets are calling my name……!
I know I have visitors from the UK to this blog… have you ever seen a Wimbledon match? Is tennis as popular in the UK as it is here?

I don’t know for sure if that’s the title of this meme. It’s what Can I Get My Subscription Filled? called it. She left it open for tags, and I liked it, so I decided to do it. Especially since I have a bunch of weeds in my garden right now.
What was I doing 10 years ago?
June 1998. Wow, ten years ago doesn’t seem like that long ago. Can’t it be 20 or 25 years ago? *sigh* Well, anyway, ten short years ago… in June… I was probably gardening. I had owned my house for a year and the place was (still is) pretty run down. Here’s hoping we get the house and yard fixed up before I get run down!

It has caught me completely unprepared. Summer, that is. It’s not really summer, but it sure feels like it. Today is our second day of 90 degree F temperatures, with three or four more to go. Hot and humid, and everyone is cranky as all get-out.
It caught me unprepared because just a few days ago, we were shivering in our blankets and longjohns! We had two frost warnings the last week in May. Then– BANG– Sahara Desert! Wow. It threw me for a loop. I must be getting old or something.
So instead of dropping Entrecards, surfing blogs, and writing articles, today I have to dig out the “summer” clothing boxes (because the children still have their sweatshirts and long pants). I also have to wash and pack away the wintercoats, blankets, hats, mittens, gloves, and put the boots in storage. This has all put me in a very disoriented state of discombobulation!
