Boating Safety

Thursday Jun 26, 2008

I grew up by the shores of Oneida Lake, the biggest inland lake in New York State. We have TONS of lakes, ponds, rivers, and creeks. Boating is really big here in the summer. The Erie Canal is one of our most popular boating attractions. And there’s also the Great Lakes Ontario and Erie that are big with boaters. But every year we hear in the news about another fatal boating accident. Usually it’s some boater who got absolutely wasted on alcohol or drugs, was driving his boat at breakneck speed, and kills someone. Totally irresponsible, and it’s heart wrenching to hear about it.

So if you have a boat or you know someone who does, gather then ’round the computer to watch these videos.

Boating, like driving, is an activity that should be taken seriously. There are lots of sites that offer Boating Education Online. Enjoy your summer but please boat safely!

Business Has Been Good

Monday May 19, 2008

Maybe you know that I sometimes blog for pay. I am a “disabled” mom with four kids– you better believe I’m going to blog for pay! I try to make the posts I write as interesting as possible, and I also try not to have too many obvious “paid” posts. This week has been a pretty good week (I count my weeks from Friday to Friday). I just wanted to say that I may have a few more paid posts hanging around, but I am trying to sprinkle them with some entertaining writing. And believe me when I say I am not going to turn this blog into a splog or a blog I use only for making money! I love to write, to muse, to share. I also love it that I am making some extra income. I do blog about things that interest me, paid or not paid. Just thought I’d say.

P.S. I haven’t forgotten about blogging more about my homeschooling exploits. I want to get a photo of my desk, and I just haven’t had time enough to tidy it up yet, for the photoshoot. But I haven’t forgotten!

Web Hosting Articles

Monday May 19, 2008

Oooo you know how I have been bemoaning my Bluehost hosting problems? And my Whip An Orbit web hosting problems (although Whip An Orbit is behaving better now). I had another half-hour outage for all three blogs with Bluehost today. Boy, this is getting old. I’ve only been with them about two months now, and I’ve had a lot of problems.

I’m paying a lot of attention these days to websites discussing hosting sites and hosting information. Here’s a great website on linux web hosting and more. DUH! I wish I’d seen this earlier! It’s called Web Hosting Rating.

Cheap web hosting can be tricky and it definitely takes one with the technical knowledge and experience to be able to judge whether the host is good. More often than not, it is the bad experiences from using cheap web hosting that eventually leads people to lose trust in these low cost endevours and move onto more expensive options, which may not necessarily be better.

“Tricky” is the understatement of the month for me. Bluehost has been tricky. Yeah. [insert angry-face icon here]

Anyway, the site lists three things to look for when choosing a web host. There are some good articles there, too. The information may help you if you are looking for tips. Looks like this blog will be brimming with good ideas to come!

She’s Totally Desperate

Tuesday Apr 29, 2008

I don’t usually talk politics here on this blog. It’s too stressful. There just aren’t any good statesmen anymore (except Ron Paul! :D). If I think about politics too much, I’ll explode. I have my blood pressure to think about. And what a mess that would make all over the walls, tsk tsk.

Anyway, I saw the latest headline on Drudge Report and just HAD to chuckle. HILLARY CLINTON TO APPEAR FOR THE FIRST TIME ON FOX NEWS. HILLARY TO APPEAR IN BILL O’REILLY SHOW.

Big whoop. But it shows how desperate the lady is. Hillary is my senator (I’m in New York) and I do not like to think about it. She is a loser, and the only thing she has going for her is her nasty butchy attitude and her famous (but loser) husband. Plus, her whole governing philosophy is traitorous. :-p Can you tell I have no respect for the lady?

Still, my husband thinks she’ll win the presidency. When asked why, he says, “Bush, Clinton, Bush, Clinton.” As if it’s destiny. The money lenders and the Federal Reserve Bank have it all planned.

Well, my blood pressure is starting to rise so I’ll end here. But I’ll leave you with the thought I have about the whole president election thing: it is WAAAY over-hyped. Why isn’t more attention given to who we elect for Congress, for they control things that directly affect us, like taxes, laws, and etc?

Happily Ever After

Wednesday Apr 16, 2008

ROFL! I came across this funny post at Natasha’s World today.

THE WORLD’S SHORTEST FAIRYTALE

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl “Will you marry me?”

The girl said: “NO!”. And the girl lived happily ever-after and went shopping, dancing, camping, always had a clean house, never cooked, did whatever the hell she wanted, never argued, didn’t gain weight, traveled more, had fun going on dates, had plenty of money, and had all the hot water to herself. She went to the movies, never had to watch sports, never wore friggin’ lacy lingerie that went up her butt crack, had high self esteem, never cried or yelled, felt and looked fabulous in sweat pants and was pleasant all the time.

The End

What a lovely story!

The only sad thing about it is that the girl got lonely from time to time, had no children (which is a crucial element for a very happy story), and some guy sure was miserable because he missed out on having a woman in his life.

I have two daughters and I hope they never marry. Why? Because I hate men? No, that’s not why, and I don’t hate men! because of this:

But if you do marry, you have not sinned; and if a virgin marries, she has not sinned. But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this…

An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord.

I Corinthians 7:8-35

This is true and I believe Paul had wisdom. Marriage is not for everyone. It can be such a blessing, but it is a fact that it is a distraction.

Sailor Mom Blogs

Friday Mar 14, 2008

I was visiting a friend’s blog and perused her little buttons and links in the sidebars. I am trying to join some of the “mom blog” networks. I clicked on the “Mom Blog” network button and was totally shocked to read profanity and filth as the number one blog on the network. Whoa! Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I just don’t think moms should be dropping f-bombs and cussing like a sailor.
