Do You Buy Shoes Online?

June 2, 2011

Frugal

I have never purchased shoes online. I’ve been too afraid. I’m pretty fussy about my shoes, and prefer to try them on first. I wish there was a bit more consistency among sizes. For example, a size 7 wide can mean ANYTHING, really, depending on the shoe. Because some shoes that say they are size 7 wide definitely don’t feel 7 wide when tried on!

BUT… the deals that are online are always sooo good. I am thinking of changing my modus operandus with shoe purchases. My retail shoe stores are rather expensive, and I ALWAYS seem to get what I pay for there (that is, poor service and poor quality). I had purchased a pair of sneakers (on sale) for only a few months ago– very pricey sneakers for half off the retail price! But already the treads are shredded and water seeps into the treads. Unbelievable! And I don’t wear shoes a whole lot, either, since I work from home. :-p I’m not a happy camper. They were a nice “name brand” shoe, too. Sheesh, if I’m going to spend moolah on shoes I may as well get something that lasts longer than 3 months!! Bad!

So I’m considering buying shoes online. The coupons are just so good, too good to pass up. There’s the Boot Barn Coupon, a 6pm Coupon, and another Shiekh Shoes Coupon, although I’ve never heard of that particular store. Usually, coupons get you a good discount or free shipping. Plus, products online do tend to be less expensive than the retail stores. I know that some stores also have good return policies with 100 percent satisfaction guaranteed and all that jazz.

Do you buy shoes online? How has that fared? Have you been happy with your purchase? Have you got a favorite stores or any tips to pass along?

I’ve bought shoes from zappos many times. I loved the free shipping and the free shipping to return shoes that didn’t fit. I have been known to buy several pairs knowing in advance that I’ll be returning most of them.

I pretty much buy all my shoes online, and I have a bit of a shoe obsession! I recomend you use Zappos. They have free shipping both ways, so it makes it easy if they don’t fit or if you don’t like them…most of the time, they also ship next day…good luck!

I felt the same way, once. My move to online shoes required that I “get over” my paradigm (rooted in the non-internet stone age). When you get used to reading the reviews of specific shoes (they run true to size, are made of cheap materials, are wider than typical “regulars”, etc.), and get used to studying the online pictures, and get used to purchasing online, receiving the shipment, and making the occasional return, YOU WILL SURVIVE. If you are like me, you will THRIVE. One word, http://www.ZAPPOS.com. You have heard of their awesome reputation for a reason. Doing business with them is awesome! But, you first need to get over your old-school ways. Don’t be afraid to make the occasional return. Zappos ENCOURAGES us to return things! Frankly, I feared that the whole ordering, waiting, try it on, return it rigamarole would be horrible. Honestly, it is sometimes FASTER than getting around to visiting my local stores (which offer relatively limited selection).

That said, my wife and I are devoted customers of THE SNEAKER STORE in New Hartford, NY. Rich Karaz’s seasoned, expert advice is priceless. I strongly urge you to put yourself into Rich’s hands. Tell him I sent you. You will NOT regret it.

I have bought shoes online and have been extremely happy with them. Of course they were reputable brands and only sneakers. I think when it comes to heels or dress shoes, I need to try them on because there are too many other factors that play into a good fit besides shoe size. However, your comment about the best deals being online, well you could go and try the shoe on and if you like it, then buy it online. Best of both worlds.
