I’ve moaned and groaned about my various problems with dropping Entrecards. A lot of time the cards don’t show up, and I have to reload and reload to get them to appear. But something mysterious has been occurring ever since I started Entrecards and I think I’ve finally pinpointed the problem. I’d appreciate it if anyone else who is experiencing this would leave a comment. Maybe something can be done.
I have Verizon DSL (ethernet and wireless). We have five computers connected to the network here. They are usually not all on at the same time… usually it’s just two or three online at a time. I am the only person in the household who drops Entrecards. Whenever i start dropping cards, our DSL connection drops- this usually happens after about 5 minutes. The disconnect lasts anywhere from one minute to four or five minutes. The DSL connection affects all the computers in the house. So when I drop cards and the DSL disconnects, my husband cannot surf news or watch videos and etc, and my daughter upstairs loses her IM chat and can’t surf the web. WEIRD. we all have to wait until the DSL goes back on, which is anywhere from one minute to five minutes. WEIRD. This has been going on for the longest time, too!
I think I am finally starting to put the pieces together. I saw this at the Entrecard forum. Apparently, someone else is having this problem, too. All the dudes at Entrecards are puzzled, but so far nothing has been done. The forum thread was initially posted 130 days ago!
My firmware for my DSL modem is updated. And I use the Internet very heavily a lot of times. But this seems to be an Entrecard filtering issue.
I’d like to know if anyone else has this happen? did you find a fix? This is affecting other things, too. When I use Firefox, the DSL disconnect screws with the browser, and Firefox crashes. I have been going crazy looking for a fix on that, too, to no avail.
Any geeks out there have any suggestions?

We use wowway cable here but when I drop cards or “make friends” on SocialSpark all the other computers in our home have to be off the internet for me to do it successfully. If anyone jumps on the internet I know it immediately because my computer completely stops until they get off the internet.
It’s very odd I have to say.

Well this explains why I have so many problems with the computer when I’m dropping. Right now we have cable and it’s usually fine, except with entrecard if someone else is online, then I lose my connection a lot. we used to have Verizon DSL (before I got into this ) and it was AWFUL, we lost connection constantly, had to unplug the line to reset it I will Never Ever again have DSL, if you call for help they CHARGE you! NEVER!

We have Verizon Fios and I have to say that over the last couple of weeks, especially if I try dropping cards in the evening, my computer gets bogged down. I’m on Firefox, I don’t often attempt to drop cards with Explorer.
I wonder if it’s particular site causing the problems. I know that there are several that have advert. pop ups (not SocialSpark) and/or video or music automatically playing. These definitely cause problems for me and there are a couple of EC’s that I now avoid because of it.

This happens to me all the time. Hard wired on this puter but wireless in the house. We have SBC DSL, I read it is because of the spam and virus problems of some sites.

I have had so many problems with my computer since beginning with EC. My computer freezes and I cannot use all functions. Pages open slowly..and I have to keep logging back in to EC. It is very frustrating.

Well, I came back to add that now I cannot even click into cards on the sites after I drop. Went to another page to drop, and it said invalid instead of thanks..and now I am only seeing an error “x” in the section you click to drop.

I’m sorry to hear you are all having so many problems with Entrecard. I live in Australia and I’ve had no problems with Entrecard, so the problem must be isolated to the internet in North America.

I’ve got Time Warner cable and often have problems with sites not loading initially, or needing to be refreshed two or three or four times before I can find the EC widget. Maybe it is a problem with our providers trying to filter out the crap on sites, because I have this problem on both computers, in all three browsers I use (IE7, FF2, FF3).

All the comments surprised me– I didn’t know I had so many in company!
From what I gathered from the Entrecard dudes at that old forum thread, they suspect it may be a filter from certain ISPs (Verizon) who see the card dropping as bit torrent activity. Therefore, they interrupt the transmission so that people are downloading huge chunks of data. One guy at the forum thread said that EC needed to do something with their messy code, or something like that.
The forum thread was from long ago. I think only two people have complained about this issue, and I doubt the EC dudes are looking into it, especially since they have been working hard on other major problems recently. Who knows? But it looks like we have all done things to work around it!

What an odd thing. I have some problems with FF but nothing like that with EC and the DSL connection. I hope you find something that works. Maybe you should send an email to Ben Barden. He is a mod at EC now and has a lot of tech experience. Should know about both sides of the problem.
I adore your template with the leaves and ladybugs. Meant to leave a note about that some day. :)

I have a blogger friend that lives about 18 miles from me who has no trouble whatsoever…so I don’t know what the deal is. I was beginning to think it was all in my head. Glad that I am in such GREAT company! :)

I am thinking of ending my relationship with entrecard. It may not be a great thing for me to keep wasting my time trying to attempt to get more credit when 1/2 the time I spend is unaccounted for.

I did download Foxfire, it is much more stable than IE. Matter of fact I can actually load a few pages and not get frozen.
