I do not see why parents have to go nearly bankrupt this time of year, buying extravagant toys for children. We also have two children who have birthdays during this time of year, and it is VERY easy to totally break our bank. We don’t “do” Christmas, but we do give gifts for Thanksgiving. We just don’t like to commercialize the holiday, and we are also trying not to spend money we don’t have! So the economy is a little pinched (that’s an understatement!) and taxes and bills are demanding more of our hard-earned cash. Save some money by going back to some of the traditional toys and games (like Bingo or Scrabble). Moreover, check out the Family Dollar dollar store for some really good prices on toys and other gifts. I’ve been going to the Family Dollar in our area for a few years. Since they are right down the street, it’s convenient to go there when I need a can of spaghetti sauce or when we suddenly need a new toilet seat (don’t ask). But did you know that Family Dollar has some great toys and gift sets?!
My son and I visited our Family Dollar, on a hunt for $5 toys. The Family Dollar company graciously gave us a gift card to check out some of the toys. So we went on a shopping spree! :D I hadn’t looked in their toy section in a while– they have some very nice stuff for all ages. There is a lot of stuff for $5, and some for $10. Being the cheapskate that I am, I looked specifically for $5 toys first.
I saw many Fisher-Price toys for the little ones. Boy, how I remember my kids playing with these!
I loved the Bingo game. They had one for older kids, and a toddler version. Cute!
I saw the Jumpin’ Monkeys and fell in love! They had a bunch of cute games like this: Topple, a Trouble-imitation game, etc. I liked Jumpin’ Monkeys best, and thought it would be fun for the whole family to play. My son wasn’t very enthusiastic about the idea; he thought it was corny. Sheesh, he’s no fun! ;) He’ll find out soon enough….
This was very nice!
Family Dollar has a whole box of little stuffies! They had Mickey Mouse and others… but I saw Tigger! Isn’t it adorable!!
My kids loved this kind of toy set when they were little. I think we only just recently gave them away, too.
After spending about 30 minutes browsing the toys, we finally agreed on three. Well, four. My son desperately wanted a Transformer, which was $10. So we got it. :D
It’s his favorite toy (right now)!
I’ll have another post about what we eventually purchased– aren’t you on the edge of your seat in suspense?! I’ll do reviews of the toys we purchased and tell you if they are a good deal. Stay tuned!
Remember, I’m a pro-blogger and I am sometimes compensated with stuff or money to review or mention products or services! This was one of them. :D You can read more about my blog policy on my My Pledge page.

I didn’t realize they had such good toys, thanks for the heads up!
By the way, I want to hear the toilet seat story… heh!
