MMoM

The job has me exhausted lately, with little time or motivation to write on the blogs. The backlog of “necessary” posts is rising while my energy levels are sinking. I’ve been working extra while it’s been plentiful, and another employer decided to test everyone with some very difficult writing pieces, while at the same time trying to manage extra duties everywhere else I turn. My living room is also a disaster because my built-in bookshelf project is going at a snail’s pace. I’m starting to feel my age….. whew.

So to prove I am still alive and kicking (well, maybe just crawling), I’ll squeeze in the fun and easy Monday meme.

1. When was the last time you tried something new?

I try something new just about every day, I think. I need constant exposure to new things to keep the creative juices flowing. Let’s see… the new thing I tried was a few apps over the weekend. I downloaded the Scribd app, which is interesting, and the amazing Action Movie FX app that I’ve been having fun with when I can grab a few minutes. *Sometime* I hope to start making fun little movies again, and this app is just so cute. Here’s a quick little example of what the app does.

:jetters: Is that swell or what?! By the way, that sound in the background is the husband reading “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” to us in a Southern slave accent.

2. What’s a belief that you hold with which many people disagree?

I don’t believe in Darwinian evolution. I first became a doubter in grade school, when the teacher said they date the fossils by the strata and the strata by the fossils. Uh HUH. That and the total lack of transitional fossils is the nail in the coffin, not to mention that the tree of life diagram is all made up, carbon-dating technology leaves MUCH to be desired, and Stanley Miller’s experiment is a crock. It takes way more faith to believe in evolution than in God.

3. What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

Just about everything. I have very eclectic tastes and they change a lot. Right now, I’m into Albannach, a Scottish bagpipe rock band. 😎

4. What piece of advice would you give to a beginning blogger?

Skip Blogger and the free WordPress.com and get your own domain and blog space. If you decide to expand your blogging or should you get popular, you will regret starting off with a free cheapo platform. You also have complete control of your own content — with the free ones, you don’t.

Now it’s time for me to ask you a question:

Do you think you will get Social Security benefits when you are ready to retire? If you are already retired, do you think the next generation will get benefits?

I’m off to keep working! Have a great week, friends!

No, social security is a myth. Like the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus – it is a nice thought but if you are dependent on it, you will be disappointed.

I think I will get SS but I doubt my children will. We have put aside money for our retirement but it won’t be enough since the cost of living has sky rocketed. We may have to work until we are 90!

  3. Jennifer Says:

I can’t answer that question, which is why I have my own retirement account! You just never know… the thought that I might not is pretty upsetting though since I’ve been paying into it since I was 14.

In Canada we actually have 2 payouts – one is called Canada Pension which everyone pays into from their working time. The other is Old Age Security which can be received at age 65. There is also a supplementary payout to maintain a cost of living above the poverty line.
When I retired this year I had a pension from my employer however my husband did not. He only receives the Canada Pension so we have dipped into our external pension fund for now.
We have never been millionaires and never hope to be however we do feel secure in our retirement and look forward to a few more cruises.

*snort* social security benefits – that’s a joke. I think the people even 10 years older than I am will most likely see a decrease in SS benefits but will most likely see something.

Me, however, nope, never, nada, zilch which is why I’m working on getting my SECOND retirement now.

I liked the video of Lily trying to get that post-it off. That’s amazing you actually try something new everyday. We did do something new this week and went to see the Cleveland Aquarium which was fun! Can only hope there will be SS benefits when we retire–better be!
Blogger works fine for me–don’t want to have to pay to blog.
