Meet Me on Monday #48

June 13, 2011

I’m a little late with MMoM this week…. we had a unique “plumbing emergency” Sunday (still unsolved). The handle to one of the bathtub faucets broke off. Replacing a bathtub handle is SUPPOSED to be a piece of cake, right? Well, remember, this house is 150+ years old, and the folks who lived here before us knew absolutely NOTHING when they did their “upgrades,” especially the plumbers. When we removed the tub handle yesterday, we discovered that the “stem” (the mechanism that opens the water supply when you spin the handle) is plastic. And it broke. Duh. Plastic. :brudder: Worse, when we tried to remove the handle/stem to replace it, we discovered that the tub handle mechanism is all integrated “one-piece”– the handles, the stem, the valve and the copper body inside the wall that directs water to the tub. Which means we have to rip open the bathroom wall (or rip open the shower stall unit) to replace the ENTIRE PLUMBING inside the wall. Just because a plastic rod broke off on a handle. Insane. Just insane… oh, yeah, and in the meantime– NO SHOWERS! We only have one shower and that’s it. :bangwall: I can just never get a break with this house. Even the simple things are so, so difficult. sighhhhhh

Ok, now that I’ve worked myself up into a good mood… here are this week’s questions!

1. What is your favorite yogurt flavor?
Ohhh….. I’m not much of a yogurt eater anymore…. I like the raspberry. I like Chobani’s honey yogurt! It’s a little tart, and goes perfect with coffee or a cookie.

2. Ankle or knee socks? and on the same theme, white socks or coloured??
Knee- well, actually I think they are called “crew”? Ankle socks are uncomfortable, they are always slipping off my feet. I sometimes scrunch the crew socks down to my ankles, 1980’s style. Gee, remember leg warmers?? Why did we ever wear those things? They never kept my legs warm. And they were a useless accessory for dance class, too. Hmm. I am not fussy about the colors, but white is the most prevalent for me. I sometimes wear mismatched socks (accidentally!). I like to think that the reason I mix them up is because I’m like Einstein… but the real reason is I’m always in such a hurry to slap on the clothes and get working that I don’t pay much attention to my clothes. Bad, I know. LOL

3. How is the weather right now?
Gorgeous. Overcast and 56 degrees. I’m very happy with the cool temps, because last week we hit 97 degrees and the air was so humid I swore I saw fish floating around. I dislike hot weather. I wouldn’t mind a bit more sun with the 56 degrees, but clouds are OK. I guess I am used to the clouds. I live in Upstate New York, right in the middle of the state. It’s the lowest geographic area of the state, and about 2/3 of our year is overcast.

4. Are you a fast typer?
I sure am. I’m also a very fast backspacer and re-typer. :pinch:

5. Red or White Wine?
Red. It’s better for you, too. My Hubs was a wine steward for a very fancy hotel, so he is a “wine snob.” He likes to try a variety of stuff, but I’m totally uncreative when it comes to wine. Just red, not too dry not too sweet, just plain. The only “fancy” wine I really like is Montezuma Winery’s Montezuma Cranberry Bog. It’s really nice for Thanksgiving.

Ha, I love that graphic of “Glenn’s Five Day Forecast” – I am with ya girl, on the heat – you know I hate it. I too am lovin’ this cool, overcast weather! šŸ˜€

hmm, i may need to borrow that pic of the weather. that’d pretty much cover ours lol

i only had to mow a portion of the grass over the weekend where the stubborn weeds grew even though there is no rain anywhere and none coming on the horizon either. i have brown grass.

You know leg warmers are back in fashion. Maybe we should’ve hung on to the ones we had as teens. They would be so ‘retro’ now.

    I like the forecast! šŸ™‚

I dunno, I don’t think you are the winner in the house department. Ours was built in the 1960’s and everything is jerry-rigged in this place–EVERYTHING! If you go to do something simple, it turns into a nightmare. Next house I get is gonna be cardboard. When it falls apart, I’ll just get a new one. Ugh.

Having a house just as old, I feel your pain! We’ve had to replace quite a bit, including the expensive stuff like roof and windows. I’d still rather live in an old house any day, because they have such charm. šŸ™‚
