Meet Me on Monday #51

October 3, 2011

Well, well! I thought this meme was finished, but I guess it was just a summer hiatus. I like it because it’s so easy to answer and it allows me to be creative– when I’ve had enough coffee. Which I haven’t, by the way. But the morning is young.

1. I can’t stand when someone ________?

I can’t stand it when someone picks on or bullies another person because of their appearance or the way they talk or because they might have an unusual name or weird habit or whatever. Drives me nuts. Maybe it has to do with my own childhood– I was picked on and bullied to no end because I was one of the few kids in class who wore glasses. I also wore hand-me-downs and thrift store clothes when all my peers had new clothes and pretty hairstyles. I don’t know why people are so nasty to each other even when they don’t HAVE to be. Once, when ranting about some politicians and their insane “logic,” I told my kids, “Don’t ever pick on people because they have a strange name or are fat or are skinny or talk funny. They can’t help those things. If you’re going to pick on people, criticize the idiotic things they DO.” :grinny:

2. Do you do daily, weekly or monthly grocery shopping?

I try to shop only once or twice a month. I hate driving into the city, it’s crazy. But when I go, I know the store issues an All Points Bulletin when they see me and all the cashiers groan. I buy in bulk, with two carts piled up to the rafters with food.

3. What kind of car do you drive?

A snazzy Hyundai Sonata!

Well, I think it’s snazzy. I have been driving clunky minivans for almost two decades, so it’s quite the thrill to have a CAR again. That’s James Bond there, poking out of the sunroof. :S

4. Crunchy or soft tacos?

Who is the guy who invented the hard taco?! And did he REALLY think that people would eat them? Those things are awful. I call them “gum shredders.” You have to turn the thing SIDEWAYS to eat it… all the contents spill out… you clamp down on that painfully crusty taco… it breaks into a billion pieces…. everything falls apart….

So, well. Guess which kind I like better? Actually, the hard tacos taste better than the soft ones. The soft are easier to eat. If I’m in a “hard taco” mood, I break up the taco into small pieces and sprinkle them onto a plate to make a taco salad. I am in awe of anyone who can handle and eat a full hard taco. For me, it’s impossible!

5. What’s the habit you are proudest of breaking?

All of them, lol.

Everyone probably lists smoking or drinking or drugs or what ever… I never did that stuff. But my habits are habits of the mind. You know, like being critical or negative or harboring resentment. A long time ago, I broke the habit of harboring resentment and bitterness. I didn’t have a very idyllic childhood, so I entered adulthood expecting more of the same. Then, I met the man who changed my life. Jesus. šŸ˜€ He’s helped me learn to forgive, to be more considerate. Sometimes I fall back into old thinking, but it’s not a HABIT anymore. I can actually be happy now. It’s very nice.

Happy Monday, friends!

You know when we’d go to the commissary we’d have 3-4 carts full. My father did NOT like shopping and would only go once a month sometimes lol

I figure if you’re gonna eat hard tacos might as well just order nachos and scoop the fillings because that’s essentially what you are doing anyways.

Holding onto resentment is something difficult to overcome and one certainly can’t do it without Jesus’ help. It was nice meeting you this Monday!

Howdy, Brenda! Thanks for visiting. I subscribed to your blog, too!

I tried to leave a comment on your blog but I can’t figure out how to do it. šŸ™ Sorry. I clicked the “comment” bubble at the top of the post and also clicked “leave a response” at the bottom of the post…. nothing worked, the page didn’t change (I tried it in Firefox and Internet Explorer). I just wanted to let you know that I did like your MMoM post (niiiiiice car!!) but was unable to respond directly. If you have a suggestion or can show me what I’m missing, please let me know! Thanks. šŸ™‚

  7. Brenda Says:

Hmm thanks for letting me know. I’m going to go look into it. Had to beef up the spam catcher! Thanks for hopping by and I hope to have it fixed next time you return!

  8. Lucinda Says:

I wish I could go to once a month shopping but I have no idea where I would store all the food. I can’t imagine the shock the first time you get the receipt.

  9. Hilary Says:

I so agree with your number one!

Every so often I can quit biting my nails and they grow lovely and long. Then I go get a manicure and paint them a wild color like fuchsia or red for the holidays. But then I go back to biting them again. I guess I just like knowing I can stop when I want to.

Negativity is another story. That one is hard to beat on some days.

  11. Secondary Roads Says:

Lately, I’ve switched from soft tacos to hard tacos. I use a fork to clean up the stuff that falls off or falls out. It’s the crunch that makes them fun to eat. šŸ™‚
