Monday Meme – Labor Day!

September 3, 2012

Gee, do Canadians celebrate the American Labor Day, as well?

I don’t, actually. I intend to work, as usual, on a few writing projects. I also have to go to the grocery store, ugh, talk about laboring! While I rarely celebrate any holidays, I do like them because people seem less harried and more friendly on those days.

1. What was the toughest job you ever had?

Writing. You wouldn’t think that writing articles in the comfort of your home would be so tough, but it is. There are deadlines, demanding editors, impossible tasks, a TON of competition, taxes which are much more difficult and expensive for the self-employed, and of course there’s always that looming threat that all opportunities will disappear overnight.

Another caveat is *having* to keep all your electronics up to date. I write a lot of tech tutorials, but they must reflect the latest gadget or upgrade. That can get pretty expensive and take a chunk out of your profit. I am, as I type, downloading the beta version of Windows 8 operating system. *sigh* I was very, very happy with Vista and have not liked having to get Windows 7 and now Windows 8. Plus, I have looked into Win8 and I hate it. It’s a radical change for the computer and the operating system is geared for mobile tablet users. WHY they are forcing us to use it on a desktop is beyond me. Anyway, I digress….

Despite the many challenges, I do prefer working at home, and writing is the best job for me, at present. For years, I’d wanted some job at home and I am SO thankful I finally got it! It’s tough but the best part is I get to be with the kids and help pay the bills.

2. What one characteristic makes a good boss?

Probably a talent for organizing, especially on the fly.

3. How did you celebrate ‘the end of summer’?

I turned off the fans! No more sweating!!! It feels so good to be able to move again without dissolving into a puddle.

4. Do you follow the fashion rules about Labour Day being the end of wearing white etc?

Gosh, no. I am horrible when it comes to fashion. Why was that rule created, anyway?

Now I get to ask you a question:

What operating system do you currently use? Which of all operating systems do you like the best?

Have a great week!

We just got a new computer so we have Windows 7. We are also looking to add another computer and my husband wants a laptop.

Windows 7. I had Vista and didn’t like it. You have piqued my curiosity about Win 8. I wish I was more tech savvy to enjoy all of the benefits. I work from home in a new venture and am loving it but it does have it’s negatives. Have a great week!!

I keep my fans going year round 24/7. I can’t sleep if my ceiling fan isn’t on. It gets to stifling.

Right now I’m running Win 7 Ultimate only because I bought a real license this time via the hospital for $25.

The only version I refused to put on any system I owned or worked on was Vista. What a pile of donkey doo that was. And W2K wasn’t any better either.

I have been to upstate New York, very pretty, but never made it to the Adirondacks. Thank -you for stopping by.

  6. Lisa Says:

I’m currently using Win7 and love it. But XP Pro has been my absolute favorite OS to use.

  7. Karen and Gerard Says:

Operating system? I think it’s Windows XP–is that one?

  8. Nani Says:

I have Vista on my laptop and Panther on my Mac. It’s an old Mac, thus the old OS. I like Vista although the school computers I used were Windows 7 and I didn’t think it was terribly different than Vista. I don’t have a tablet or a smart phone, so it sounds like I won’t like Windows 8!
