My Smarty Siamese Cat

April 9, 2010

I’d once heard it said that Siamese cats are very smart, smarter than “the other” cats. I never really knew if this was *scientifically* true, or if it was just some old wives’ tale or some such. But Livvy is an extraordinarily smart kitty. And I’m not biased when I say that, either! :shades:

Maybe she just seems smarter because the other cats are as bright as lug nuts. But I do think that maybe she really IS smarter than the average cat.

For example, she has figured out how to open doors. We have these very old door latches (from 1855, the originals!) on several doors. We lock her in one the rooms when it’s time to feed the other animals outside, because Livvy is such a maniac that she tries to sneak outside. :hmph: So during critter-feeding time, she’s banished to the front entry, and both doors have those latches on the doors.

Making sure Spell Check is working correctly.

Don’t ask me how, but she knocks them and knocks them until the latch rises and the door swings open! And then she comes charging down the house to sneak outside, the little rat!

Another example of her brightness is when she plays with a string, or plays peek-a-boo with one of us. Rather than try to get the string, she tries to get the arm that holds the string! And in peek-a-boo, she skitters around the corner, trying to see the back of the person, as if she can’t be fooled!

Maybe it’s just me; maybe I’m terribly biased, and think that my sweet baby is the smartest little kitty in the world. She surely is the cutest! :wubs:

Look at that sweet face.

I liked reading about your cute smart cat! Livvy sure is smart all right, but I think all cats are very smart. They sure know how to enjoy their day and get lots of rest for play and great adventures!

  2. Sparkle Says:

Livvy is definitely exceptionally bright – the door trick is a dead giveaway. She also has fab markings – I love the tiger stripes on her legs! If I was something other than a Somali, I would want tiger stripe legs.

I used to think Siamese were the smartest cats in the world because I had a pure-bred chocolate point who was incredibly smart… but I realize now that he was intelligent, but had no common sense. (We lost him last year at age 15 – I miss him sooooo much!) Now I believe Abyssinian street cats are the smartest… they have ‘book smarts’ and ‘street sense’. We really have to keep an eye out on the 3 of ours… they are too tricky! (hide the credit cards and car keys)
Your Livvy is gorgeous! But she doesn’t look pure Siamese… her forehead markings, and color … you sure she isn’t part Aby?!

      Everyone loves Livvy.

As far as I know, Livvy is not Abyssinian. If she was, I suppose I would have paid triple for her. lol.

We were told she is half-Siamese and half-tabby, making her a *ahem* Tabby-Point Siamese. She’s got royal breeding, but she’s a little on the wild side. Like me, actually, lol!

I’m glad you like our stories, Karen. Oh there are MORE! lol

Sparkle– I did wonder if the door trick was “the sign.” Yes, she always gets comments about her markings. I am glad you mentioned you are Somali– I did wonder what breed you were, cuz you are so pretty. Ooolala.

    Livvy is a lovely lady.

Livvy is adorable! And opening a door is smart, frustrating, but smart.

My cat hasn’t figure out how to open a door but she tries. She works the bottom of the door by putting her paw underneath and pulls at it. It doesn’t matter that she is pulling the wrong way or that it is latched, she makes so much noise doing it that I get up and open the damn door for her. Maybe she is smarter than I give her credit.

OH MY GOSH that last pic is ADORABLE!!!! HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  7. Dyeve Says:

I must be agree with Birckster..the last one pict…gorgeus!
    Lovly cat! I want too..few cats..but..:(

    I am biased, too. šŸ˜‰

There is no doubt that she’s adorable and brilliant. Perhaps it’s because she spends so much time on your computer! LOL

I have to say that two of my three have gotten very good at opening cupboard doors. They don’t have century-old latches to deal with, but they do have spring-hinges that close behind them, so they can disappear at will.
