New Family-Friendly TV Fare: A Walk in My Shoes & a DVD Giveaway!

November 20, 2010

Read the end of the post to see how you can win the DVD of the soon-to-be-released movie “Walk in My Shoes” starring Nancy Travis, Cameron Deane Stewart, Yara Martinez, and Philip Winchester!

There’s an old Indian proverb, “Never criticize a man until you’ve walked a mile in his moccasins.” The movie title “Walk in My Shoes” reminded me of that.

Have you ever been critical or angry at someone or something, only to later see the situation from a different perspective? That happens to me. Like, A LOT. I used to be so presumptuous as a kid. Becoming older (and hopefully wiser) has helped me. Like John Wesley said, “The older I get, the more I am less exacting of others and more exacting of myself.” That’s a good thing, I think. I think young kids out there need to know that the world does not revolve around them– that we need to consider others AND realize that even people in authority (such as teachers) can make mistakes and learn things, too.

WalMart and Proctor & Gamble are at it again! They’ve made a new TV movie based on all this. It’s called Walk in My Shoes. I’ve seen the movie trailer and it looks good. It’s kind of like a Freaky Friday premise. This is from one of the press releases.

Stressed-out high school teacher Trish Fahey (Nancy Travis, “Three Men and a Baby,” “Becker”) can’t understand her students’ lack of effort in the classroom and why their parents don’t seem to care. This is especially true of Justin Kremer (Cameron Deane Stewart), a popular, skateboard-loving, basketball star who is underperforming in her class. Trish has him suspended from the basketball team and quickly chalks up the situation as a case of bad parenting.

This perspective dramatically changes when Trish meets Molly (Yara Martinez), a mysterious stranger intent on helping her see things differently. After a car accident, Trish wakes to find herself living the life of Cindy Kremer (Jana Lee Hamblin), the woman she has rashly judged and criticized. Molly helps Trish discover that there is more to the story and learns a powerful lesson that affects everyone she interacts with, including her husband, daughter and the Marine next door. No one is left unchanged.

WalMart and P&G have teamed up in the past to make two previously outstanding family-friendly movies: Secrets of the Mountain and The Jensen Project. We ABSOLUTELY LOVED Secrets of the Mountain. And The Jensen Project was exceptionally well done. It looks like Walk in My Shoes is going to be another hit.

In case you haven’t heard, WalMart and P&G are purposely encouraging family-friendly movies. They realize that we parents are sick of the anti-family junk out there. The movies that WM and P&G are producing are wholesome, family-friendly movies suitable for all ages. And they are VERY well done– the music is done by Randy Jackson, who did the music for the other two movies. The soundtrack features specials songs by young artists (and one of the songs is written by Charlie Peacock!).

The movie is coming to NBC on Friday, December 3, and it is expected to be a big hit, with people all over the country suddenly exhibiting random acts of extreme kindness and generosity!

great to hear about family friendly movies; it is hard when we go to my sister’s place and need to choose a movie- there are 4 adults(counting dh & I) and 2 children-ages 15 and 11. Quite an age difference and what do you choose so everyone can watch.

Well this would be awesome to win because we won’t have tv service at our ADK “cabin” and plan to bring movies to watch, so a nice family friendly movie like this would be just perfect!

I don’t know if since I already subscribe to your RSS, follow you on Twitter and have already followed you on friend connect if those count as entries too, but if not, that’s ok – I can still pin all my hopes on just one entry. 😀

Here, I have an idea – I tweeted about it – maybe that can count for something! 🙂
