Out Sick

January 17, 2012

Dear Diary

I was doing some research today and when I clicked on a technology website, my computer went bananas.

GREAT. A virus. Or trojan. Or some evil thing.

:rollpin: Needless to say, I am a *little* upset.

Oh yeah, and even though I religiously backup everything with superhuman zeal, I haven’t done it lately because 1.) the computer is new to me and I JUST loaded all my old stuff on it, and 2.) I forgot because I’ve been busy working on resumes.

So….. all my new photos, documents, business emails and business contacts are in danger. At first, it appeared as if the virus wiped everything from the hard drive. I dug a little deeper and found that everything was still on the drive, but hidden. I managed to grab what I could and move it to an external hard drive, but that’s really risky. The virus could attach itself to the external hard drive, and as soon as i plug it into another computer, BANG I’ve got two more problems.

I can’t seem to get rid of the virus, though. I’ve tried several anti-malware programs but none of them pick it up. I KNOW it’s a virus, though. All the telltale signs are here.

*sigh*

What makes this really scary is that I am a security fiend. I run a firewall and antivirus, keep Windows updated and never click on those rogue links and downloads. Something happened, and my security programs let the virus through. Something screwy going on here….

So that’s where I’ll be for the next few days– trying to fix the computer, giving some teenager in Russia a laugh. Yeah.

:abangpan:

I just paid my computer guy $65 to come over and clean up my desktop computer. It got a virus that I could not get rid of. Why do people do this stuff?!!! grrrr I love having my Apple laptop.

That stinks. I’m so lucky to have my own build-in tech support. My hubby is a computer geek… he used to work in I.T.!!! Hope you’ll be able to fix it soon.

What a pain! Been there and have the scars to prove it.
