Simple Woman’s Daybook

Memes

I wouldn’t exactly call my life simple these days but this is a nice meme and Lord knows I need some time to just cool my jets and reflect for a bit. Men, feel free to join in, HAHA!

FOR TODAY

Outside my window…
Rain is drizzling. An occasional breeze is blowing across the tree limbs, shaking off the few remaining papery orange and yellow leaves. My cat is watching the activity intently. What is she thinking? That she can go outside and grab them? We brought a leaf into the house the other day and flipped it around for her. She chased it, sniffed it, and eventually abandoned it.

I am thinking…
Of all the things I need to accomplish today. That I should probably take things slow. Even though I have lots to do, I should keep an even keel and not get frantic. Progress, no matter how slow, is progress.

I am thankful…
For a quiet morning. For my warm, fuzzy bathrobe that I am still wearing. For fresh coffee. For no pressing appointments today!

In the kitchen…
The glowing light of the coffee pot pierces the dim lighting. November weather fits the first day of November. It’s usually our cloudiest, gloomiest month when the trees are finally stripped bare of their colors and everything is washed brown. But I like November because it’s so warm and cozy inside. I like the smells of baking bread and cinnamon candles and coffee.

I am wearing…
Well, besides my plush, fuzzy bathrobe, I’ve got on shorts, socks and a t-shirt. Typical pajama garb all year long. I will eventually get dressed… maybe even get a shower later….

I am creating…
school goal chart schedules for the next few weeks. We run a tight ship. I don’t often discuss our homeschooling/umbrella school exploits much, mostly because now that the kids are older I am less involved. They use the Abeka curriculum which is practically pre-formatted for them. When they were younger, I was much more active — creating worksheets, grilling them on vocabulary lists and math rules, and teaching them how to write papers. Most of that kind of work has ended but I do still assist them with their writing projects and scoring their homework.

I am going…
To get another cup of coffee. Be right back.

I am wondering…
How much longer this will be? These lists are long!

I am reading…
Lots of books these days. I don’t know why I do it to myself, but I always have half a dozen books going on at the same time. I jump around because I get bored with the same book after a while, go read something else, and return to the original book. There are also so many good books to read that I wish I could absorb them more quickly! Anyway, to answer the question directly, here’s what’s on my plate right now: “The Mammoth Book of Antarctic Expeditions” which is a compilation of journal entries from people who explored the region. “History of the British-Speaking Peoples” by Winston Churchill, which so far is very readable and rich. “Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,” by Jules Verne. I took this up after reading the fascinating “The Mysterious Island” which was its sequel of sorts. The Book of Exodus in the Bible, which I haven’t thoroughly read in a long time. My desire is to read Deuteronomy but I felt I should re-read Exodus first. “The Adventure of English” by Melwyn Bragg, a terrific book about the genealogy of the English language. “The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle” by King Alfred (lol). It’s an ancient book — 9th century — but I have a very good edited version. “Medieval History for Dummies” which is very entertaining. I haven’t started “Inside the Victorian Home” by Judith Flanders, but I am very eager to. I think I have to finish some of the others first.

I am hoping…
I won’t be exhausted after all this typing. I think I will skip a few of these questions as I’ve been at this an hour already (with several interruptions).

I am looking forward to…
Having my school charts completed and the time after all the chores are done tonight.

A favorite quote for today…
Work first, then play.

One of my favorite things…
Tranquility after a job(s) well done.

Have a good day, buddies. šŸ™‚ Time for me to get to work!
