Slooooow Down

July 7, 2008

I’ve heard of those “energy” drinks and supplements; have you? You know, stuff like Jolt soda and caffeine pills for students before a test. I have never taken those. Five cups of coffee a day is enough to keep me zipping along, lol! Actually, I’ve started to reduce my coffee intake, because what I think I really need is to sloooooow down a little. I am a very high-strung person, very energetic and sometimes– very infrequently, mind you– crazy. Heh.

For the first time, I’ve seen a supplement that helps people slow down and relax. Never heard of such a thing before! They should make this mandatory for certain maniac drivers! It’s called AbsoluteCalm. Ever hear of it? It has Magnolia extract and soy. Some blogger mentioned Magnolia extract recently, and I can’t remember who. I wasn’t paying much attention, but now I wish I did. This is from the Absolute Calm website:

Magnolia Extract is rich in the phytochemicals honokiol and magnolol, which have numerous health benefits. One of the most impressive benefits is their ability to alleviate stress while producing a calming effect. Dozens of animal studies have shown that they act as a non-addictive, non-sedating anxiolytic (anti-stress) agent at low doses.

That means a small dose of Magnolia Extract can help calm your nerves and alleviate stress, without making you sleepy. The beauty about these two phytochemicals is that honokiol exerts an anti-stress effect, and magnolol exerts an antidepressant effect.

Well, it’s no secret that our society and our frantic lifestyles are making us terribly stressed out. When I feel this way, I usually go out to the gardens, but I know that some people don’t have gardens. Would you ever take a supplement that helps you slow down and relax? Do you think taking a relaxation supplement is the same as taking an energy pill or drink? <

I would like to order some to give to my teenagers. I could put it their coffee.

Well how about that?? I’m not surprised.

Nice to see they’re putting Magnolia Extract in more products. If you have heard of anti-stress supplements that lower Corisol (and help reduce fat around the midsection) – they contain Magnolia Extract. I won’t explain the science behind the whole thing, but I have taken those kinds of supplements for stress and I noticed enough of a difference to keep buying and using the products. (Ok, still have the tummy, but I’m not stressing out about it! LOL)

Where do they sell this drink? Have you tried it?

5 cups of coffee?? You got it right, you neeed to slow down. Even with 2 cups of coffee a day, I couldn’t have good night sleep. Higher caffeine contents keep us active.

    Carole– ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pam, the stuff I saw was in softgels, not a liquid. I don’t know if I could ever force myself to drink Magnolia extract. The link to the stuff I saw is in the post itself, that Absolute Calm stuff. Your comments helped– thanks for that information.

Atniz– yeahhhh 5 cups, alright. Heh!
