Frugal fans, this is the perfect time to get new software. As with the car dealerships, software vendors are eager to get rid of this year’s models in anticipation of next year’s stuff. I never buy new, “next year” software, (just like I never buy new, “next year” cars), because usually the upgrade to the new has negligible worth. I don’t think its worth paying $50 to $100 more for 2.3 when 2.2 is just fine.

So anyway, here’s really good news– Dragon Naturally Speaking 10.0 is on sale right now, for $37.00 (includes the shipping). I don’t think you are going to find such a low price for in-the-box software anywhere. It’s at Buy.com right now. The Dragon Naturally Speaking appeals to me because I’ve been wanting to try it out for a long time, and now that my dear friend Chuck at Secondary Roads is using it to alleviate his carpal tunnel (something that afflicts me sometimes, too), I’m ready to try it. I actually did advertisements for Nuance Dragon Naturally Speaking, a few years ago. It looked really interesting back then, but it was very expensive at $100. $37 is a great price! It also makes a GREAT gift for a grandma or grandpa, folks who can’t type but don’t want to be shut off from email and writing on the word processor.

So if you are interested, check out the software at Buy.com. They are having a great holiday sale on all kinds of software: Kapersky Internet Security 2011 is on sale for under $50, Windows 7 Family Pack Premium Upgrade is $125, Windows 7 Full Version is $200 (still very pricey, IMHO), and the video games are everywhere, on sale. Usually when prices are so low, things sell out quickly, so don’t wait if you need something.

Woo hoo!!! I replaced my cell phone last week. It’s my first “smartphone” and, oh my word, I am having SUCH fun with it! I got an iPhone 4, and I absolutely LOVE it!!! I can do anything and everything on this thing. And yes, it’s true, there really is “an app for that.” lol!

So now I need to figure out how to protect this thing. The iPhone 4 is glass on the front and on the back. I’m pretty careful with it, but I need a good case and some accessories. The guys at the wireless store where I got the iPhone weren’t very informed about cases and accessories. I asked them if there was a flip case available for the iPhone, and they said no. :hmph: Well, I looked at Buy.com, and there are LOADS of flip cases for the iPhone! And the cases are a whole lot cheaper than the bland silicone stuff at the retail store! The retail store wanted to sell me a very basic Belkin silicone case, an iPhone car charger, and a protective plastic screen for the whopping amount of SIXTY dollars. And that was their “deal.” $60?!?!! No way, NOOOOO way. I did get a case (the cheapest kind, at the outrageous price of $30!) but after shopping at Buy.com, I’m going to take it back. The best the retail stores could offer me were the basic red, black, gray, and hot pink boring rubber cases. *yawn*

Look at all the stuff at Buy.com for the iPhone! How will I ever choose?

I think they are so beautiful, so creative! I don’t know which to pick. The wood one is real teak wood. It’s currently out of stock, though. But it’s very affordable– less than the cheapo Belkin plastic thing I currently have.

I LOVE the fourth one. It’s the Spring Flowers iPhone 4 Snap-On case and it comes with a car charger! Guess how much the sale price is? NINE DOLLARS. Includes shipping. Yes, $9!!! I can’t believe that the retail store was charging me $60 for a lousy piece of black plastic and a charger! It’s unbelievable.

So now you know what I mean when I say I love Buy.com. Because I REALLY do.

If you’ve been hanging back, hesitant to purchase a premier photo editing software program because they are so expensive (eep, Adobe Photoshop is $100!)– I’ve got some good news for you! I found the Serif PhotoPlus X3 Digital Studio on sale at Buy.com. It’s regularly priced at $80– on sale now for $15!!! Includes free shipping. It’s compatible with Adobe Photoshop, too. The price cannot be beat.

I have PaintShopPro– I got it pretty cheap at an auction site, but I paid way more than what Buy.com is selling this software for (and Buy.com has the brand new stuff). The PhotoPlus X3 is nice– makes a perfect gift for a young person wanting to learn how to work with graphic images and design. Or, use it for editing photos for blogs or family scrapbooks. The price is phenomenal, and they usually don’t last very long at that price. I’m going to pick one up for the kids’ computer. People often ask me how to watermark their photos, how to reduce photo size for adding them to blogs, etc. PhotoPlus X3 does it all, and it’s so inexpensive. It’s a high-quality photo editing program, just a GREAT price!

Buy.com has some really good sales going on right now. It’s best to get their weekly email newsletter, which has an early preview of the sales. Things go very quickly at Buy.com. I wasn’t quick enough to get the wireless mouse on sale, either– it sold out in, what, a few hours! Definitely check out Buy.com. As we near the holidays, the sales will increase as the competition thickens. :D All the better for us Frugal Hacks!

In case you didn’t notice, that’s a Quad-Core processor!!! With 4GB RAM! It’s one powerful little machine, the very kind of machine I have been waiting for. But alas, a bargain is not a bargain if you don’t have the dough. So I pass it on to you, in case you have been looking for a new laptop. I checked out the specs, and everything about it is perfect. It’s a Toshiba (the best brand in laptops, IMHO), has incredible processor power so it will do everything and anything without stuttering, good memory, good hard drive space, and it has Windows 7 64-bit. It’s brand new and it has free shipping. It’s a luxury machine at a budget price! I can’t believe I’m going to miss it.

I tell you, if you do not subscribe to Buy.com’s Weekly sale email newsletter, you should! I get a first-hand glimpse at all the deals for the week (that’s how I found this one). A lot of times, the deals go very quickly at Buy.com, so it’s best to nab them fast.

If you get it, will you send me pictures? :awe:

$135 !!!!!!!!!!!!!! And includes free shipping! It’s on sale at Buy.com. I have been waiting for eBook readers to go down in price. eGads, they are expensive. The lowest I have ever been able to find is $200. This is a great deal, PERFECT as a holiday gift, or as a treat for being such a special person. :D

The Aluratek eBook Reader comes with a 2GB SD Card with 100 preloaded free eBooks, mostly old classics like stuff by Marl Twain, Dickens, etc. You know, the stuff you had to read in high school, lol. All in all, it’s a good deal. I like giving Buy.com my business because they are so good to me. Their shipping is blazing fast and the prices.. well, you already see how low their prices are!

If you want this eBook Reader, better hurry. Stuff like this at Buy.com tends to go fast, plus I think I may grab a few!!! Nice one, Buy.com!

I know some of you guys have kids who have just started school and college. Heads up on a beautiful Ben Sherman canvas messenger bag! This particular bag from Buy.com comes in some nice colors: brown, gray, olive, black, etc. It’s beautiful! It will hold books or laptops or whatever, and has some small pockets to hold assorted little stuff, too.

I love it, and may just get a few for some of us. It’s only $35 at Buy.com right now– on sale at the lowest price anywhere.

I have become disgruntled with the backpacks that the kids use. When I was a kid, we didn’t have backpacks– we carried our books in our arms.I dislike backpacks, especialy for children. And most backpacks are weighed down with TOO much school stuff– this is very bad for the child’s posture, and his developing spinal column (and for older spinal columns, too!). My youngest is always complaining about how heavy his backpack is, and how it hurts his back. :-p So we’re phasing out of the backpacks.

Messenger bags are better. They are also much more versatile (and more mature-looking, in my opinion). I have a very tiny messenger bag that I use for my netbook that I love. These larger messenger bags can serve as a nice, big purse or travel case, too. The interior small pockets are handy. The canvas material is VERY durable– we have a black one that has stood the test of time.

You wont find this any cheaper anywhere else than Buy.com! I love those guys!

I’m finally getting to the school shopping. Ugh! This kitchen renovation has totally consumed 1/3 of my year so far. I am so, so happy to have it (almost) done. :D I am eager to get my life back again!

The kids need school stuff now. We’ve been relying on last year’s surplus, but the supplies are beginning to wane. Sheesh, remember those good old days when all we needed was some lined paper, pencils, crayons, and a calculator? Today, the kids need backpacks, scientific calculators, and (gulp) computers! The kids have relied on old hand-me-down computers for their school work, but two of them run Windows XP, and are beginning to have problems. Windows XP is no longer supported by Microsoft, and has been essentially phased out. So I find myself starting to browse around for computers for the boys…

There is no better place to get very inexpensive, quality computers–IMHO– than Buy.com. They are having a marvelous sale on computers right now, specifically geared for school. This Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976 is terrific! It’s got a Sempron processor, which is lower-end, but perfect for school activities (and too slow for gaming, heh heh). My eyes popped when I saw the price: $400! For a Toshiba, that’s pretty good. I think Toshiba makes the best laptops; I have a huge desktop-sized one and I have not had one problem with it in two years. Don’t ask me about the HP laptops, though! :-x

I love Buy.com! I have purchased tons of stuff from them, and have been exceptionally pleased with their prices, customer service, and fast (and very often) free shipping. They also have great videos about products, and other informative features. Be sure to check out their Weekly Specials email– I have found stuff for very low prices through that. Ooo and there may be a very nice business laptop on sale right now, too…

OK, Christmas and holiday shoppers… I have some goodies for you. Buy.com is really ramping up their sales lately. Look what I found!

A very, very inexpensive laptop. This would be perfect for one of the young children, or for travel. It’s a Visual Land 7″ Netbook with built-in wireless. It’s a very small computer with small hard drive and etc– but it’s perfect if you have an elementary-grade child who wants/needs a computer, and you just don’t want to spend $1000 on a Sony Vaio for them yet! This netbook has no moving parts, either (it’s got an internal flash drive memory instead of a spinning hard drive), so it’s very durable. I got something similar (an Eee PC) for my youngest son a few years ago, same kind of components. It’s still plugging away. These things tolerate rough treatment such as handling by a child or carrying around in a travel bag. The price is only $90!!!

This is one I am SO tempted to snatch up myself. It’s a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse. It’s 62% off! It’s just $29 and includes free shipping. A wireless keyboard is wonderful! I have one, and I love it. I no longer have this mass of wires all over my desk. This is a great deal, and again, makes a great holiday gift.

Those are just a few of the really good sales that jumped out at me. Buy.com is also selling stuff for back to school (backpacks, shoes, Microsoft Office Student), and there are summer clearances going on right now.

‘Twas scouring through the weekly sale page at Buy.com and spotted this funky thing. Got any guesses as to what it is?

It’s a mouse! For your computer! I thought I have seen them all, but this gadget just takes the cake! It’s called the Jelfin Gel Covered Mouse. Buy.com includes a little video on the product page.

The ad is a little disappointing, because it doesn’t show how really small the thing is. The mouse is a little smaller than a tennis ball. REALLY small. I think it is totally cool! The only problem with it is that’s it’s a wired mouse (I prefer the wireless). But maybe they’ll develop a wireless one in the future. The mouse is pretty affordable- $20 and that price includes Buy.com’s free shipping. :D

Would you get this? The mouse, they say, is apparently very comfortable. It fits in the palm of your hand, and has a soft gel shell that you can remove and clean. I may get one and review it. You all know what a mouse-a-holic I am. I’m currently testing out the Microsoft Mobile Wireless 4000, which I like (and it comes in pink!). The Jelfin comes in pink, too. It’s nice to know that mouses aren’t just for the guys anymore. ;)

So what do you think? Would you like it, you think?

Ugh, summer. The humidity is cranked up SO high here in Upstate New York. Rarely do I feel sick, but today the humidity gave me a stomachache. And the bugs this year are big suckers. Literally. With one or two slurps, they can drain a cat of half his bodily fluids. :sik: My poor Fuzzy must have gotten stung by a wasp– his face is swollen. The poor kitty looks so pitiful. I tried to squirt some Benadryl down his throat… you know, they REALLY should make catnip-flavored medicine. If those kitty Temptations treats were laced with Benadryl, I’d be one of the happiest people in the world. I HATE stuffing medicine down the cats’ throats! Poor kitties!

Anyway, with tick and flea season in full tilt now, I’m keeping my eyes peeled for deals on pet supplies. Here’s a goodie that I have to share: Frontline is on sale for $100 or so at Buy.com. I’ve never seen it lower than $150 here. Buy.com also has loads of other pet supplies: toys, bedding, treats, etc. And guess what else they have? A FURminator! I’ve been wanting one for a while. It’s SO hot and sticky that Livvy’s cat fur sticks to my sweaty face when I pet her. *gag* I think I may cough up a hairball sometime soon, unless I take drastic measures. The small FURminator is just $40! :D

Good prices right now! Check it out if so inclined. I have saved good money at Buy.com. Plus, they have great service and free shipping on a lot of stuff.
