When they heard that moms were clamoring for wholesome, family-friendly movies for their families, Walmart and P&G released “Secrets of the Mountain.” It is an excellent movie, and we own the DVD– we watch it all the time! Shortly after the success of “Secrets of the Mountain,” they released “The Jenson Project” (and I was honored to attend an exclusive screening in New York for that), and then “A Walk in My Shoes.” NOW they have another movie coming out! It’s called “Change of Plans.” Here’s a trailer of the movie, it looks really good and has an all-star cast:

The story line is basically this: Brooke White (from American Idol) plays Sally, a very successful musician who is obsessed with her career and her husband, Jason (played my Joe Flanigan). But her best friend dies, leaving behind four adopted children. In her will, the friend bequeaths guardianship of all four kids to Sally and Jason. Needless to say, Sally and Joe are not happy with their life interrupted. It’s a heart-warmer, just like the other movies, where the characters must put aside their selfishness or misunderstandings, and change (in this case, their plans) for the sake of others.

The movie airs Saturday night on FOX– January 8th at 8pm EST. Even the commercials during the movie are “family-friendly” (thank God). I can’t harp on enough about– it’s HIGH TIME we started seeing good, wholesome, character-building movies on TV. I’m actually going to get a sneak peek of “Change of Plans” in an exclusive screening tomorrow night. :D I’m looking forward to it.

Don’t miss “Change of Plans” if you want to watch it, otherwise you’re going to have to wait for the DVD. And the DVD will not be released until spring. So make sure you tune in on January 8th!

I rarely, rarely enter cooking contests. Most are geared toward uber-gourmet dishes. I have FOUR kids and I work a job PLUS I’m renovating my house. I am NOT going to be making gourmet anything for a long, long time. No way. We like our meals fast and we like them budget. BUT I must have them nutritious. No boxed macaroni and cheese or hot dogs for my kids! We are on a semi-raw food diet, too. We usually eat mainly raw foods during the summer anyway, but we are making a concerted effort to avoid fatty foods, cereals, cooked stuff, and stuff with loads of salt and sugars. The raw food diet is extremely healthy. As well as delicious. :D

So we eat a LOT of “wraps.” My daughter makes an absolutely SMASHING hummus wrap– it is incredible. We usually buy Mission Flour tortillas for wraps, because they are very inexpensive, and they usually come in these big packs in 8″ and 10″ sizes. They are also “light” and not heavily glutinous and sticky, which is why I prefer them. And guess what?? Mission Flour Tortillas is having a Mission Menus Challenge! In case you don’t keep on top of all my other blogs (don’t feel bad, I don’t, either!), I’m renovating my home. The kitchen, laundry room, and dining room, to be exact. Plus we’re redoing all the plumbing, all the electric, and removing the old furnace and ductwork.

Yeah, that’s how I feel right now.

Demolition is SOOOOO hard. Just so hard. It’s even worse when you can’t wash your dishes or your laundry, and have electrical cords snaked through holes in the walls from the upstairs to the downstairs… we’ll get through this, and we’ll get through it victorious, too! But it’s the “through” part of getting through… it’s not a fun time right now, that’s all.

So when I saw that Dove Ice Cream is having a “My Mini Moment” contest, my heart did a few leaps. BOY OH BOY could I go for a MAJOR mini moment right about now! I’m seriously thinking of taking a little time off from plaster and lathe removal to enter this contest. Here’s the scoop:

Dove is asking women to share their “mini” moment of escape. The grand prizes are more than mini: a getaway to Napa Valley, spa services for a year… orrrr…. (ready?!) a mini-home makeover!!!! You have to submit a photo and an essay to enter. The “My Mini Moment” contest ends June 7, 2010.

Mmmm I love Dove chocolate ice cream. I remember when they came out with it, back in the 80s. It was this big chunk of vanilla ice cream on a stick, coated with thick Dove chocolate. I used to get them at a local deli on Lexington Ave in Manhattan. They were SOOOO good. And I was young back then, so the calories burned right off. Mmmmm. Well, today, the Dove minis are only 70 calories. I can do that. :D Their new Café Collection features Java Chip and Cappuccino Flavors.. oo la la. They are yummy! I think they are little mini moments in of themselves.

So anyway, check out the contest. I think I will. I surely could use a MAJOR mini moment…..

Maybe it’s *finally* over!!

My lousy “luck” with contests. I just NEVER win them! Wah! Well, the kinds of contests where you submit stuff, like videos, and such, I do sometimes win. I have won $1000 before in a video contest. That was very cool. And I won another video contest which… actually.. they never gave me my winnings, hmm….

But when it comes to “random” contests, I just never win. Lord knows, I enter like a fiend.

BUT THIS TIME! I FINALLY WON something!!

It was at Vixen’s Den. She was giving away some Rachel Ray bakeware, and by golly, I WON!! When she told me I won, I nearly exploded in enthusiasm. The poor lady probably got her eyebrows blasted off by reading my email response.

I’m kinda thrilled, can you tell? Maybe now there’s hope for me yet! Maybe I’ll win that $5000 contest at Febreze, and my entire kitchen renovation will be paid for! Ya think?!

We like to eat dinner together, and watch a movie together, most of the time. Usually the films are documentaries (like The Case for Christ) but the kids sometimes want an action movie (and we’ve already seen The Incredibles a billion times). It’s been tough to locate “family-friendly” movies that don’t make you cringe or aren’t full of filthy language.

I am pleased to announce the comeback of family-friendly movies! Yay! This one is called “Secrets of the Mountain.” It’s a made-for-TV feature movie brought to you by Walmart and Proctor&Gamble. This film was made specifically BECAUSE Americans are demanding BETTER movies that the entire family can enjoy! Yay!!! See, your letters and concerns are being heard! This is a tremendous win for moms and dads who are demanding quality, family-friendly movies to watch with the kids. The movie is airing on NBC on Friday, April 16th and 8/7c.

I saw a special sneak preview clip of Secrets of the Mountain and it looks really, really good! I love these kinds of movies. It reminds me of a cross between Heartstrings, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and National Treasure 2. I was surprised that I enjoyed the trailer so much– I am looking forward to the movie now! It’s being touted as a “family-friendly” action thriller (my favorites kinds of movies!). It’s looks very, very well done. And you can win a FREE DVD set, too! I’m having a contest– keep reading!

The plot of Secrets of the Mountain is basically this:

Single mom Dana is overwhelmed by her career and her children’s constant arguing. She decides to drag them all to a mountain cabin that she inherited from an uncle. There they discover that there’s way more to this little cabin– there’s an ancient secret somewhere on the property that draws the family in– and the Bad Guys out– with a lot of suspenseful twists and turns.

I think this is a great deal. The movie looks so good; they’ve really done a phenomenal (and family-friendly) job with it.

Moreover, the DVD set has a special disk devoted to detailing the “behind the scenes” moments. I love these special disks. As a young person, I had studied drama and was interested in getting into filmmaking; and although I didn’t follow through with it as a career choice, I do still like the aspects behind making movies. The special disk has interviews with the actors and film crew– including a nice feature about the making of the soundtrack (produced by Randy Jackson), and a segment about the importance of the aspect of “family” as central to the plot of the story. This section has poignant snippets by the actors and cast about their own special “family moments”; some of them are very touching. It’s all very well done.

It’s pretty impressive. It’s a nice, low-key website, too– no guys in skin-tight shorts with poofy hair screaming at you to bounce up and down for an hour.

Moreover, I have researched online about nutrition and healthy living.. and there’s just SO much stuff out there. Too much. WellnessDaily.com does a great job condensing information, and they do it in smaller, manageable bites (no pun intended!). You can actually digest the information because it’s presented in such an organized, moderate format. It’s a very impressive website. I like it.

I recently reviewed the new laundry cleaning supplement, Smelly Towel. It’s a really weird name, but the stuff works! I have a house full of stinky situations: with teenagers, a dog, a couple of cats, a musty old house, etc etc, we REALLY needed this stuff. (I will have you know that I ALWAYS smell like roses and gardenias, by the way). The towels in the house always smelled musty.
