Remember when comedy was, uh…. FAMILY FRIENDLY? What the heck ever happened? My online pal Chuck was recently lamenting the state of the entertainment culture, and how heartily I agree. It does seem that movies and music and comedy is geared toward the immature, adolescent male. (No offense to godly adolescents!). It’s disgusting.

Well, I’m happy to say that I HAVE found some very good stuff on the Internet. The kids and I LOVE Michael, Jr., and Brad Stine, and John Gray. And I just recently found out that the American Family Insurance has a whole series of comedians who are hilarious AND they promote family values, like spousal faithfulness, reverence, respect and mocking death metal rock music, lol. One of my favorite videos from the AmFam video site is Rodney Perry’s skit “Poppin’.” He is SO COOL!!! I love how he gets the audience participation. The skit reminds me a little of John Gray, who also wears a suit and can dance with absolute class. Perry’s little schpeel rings back fond memories of school cafeteria times in the 1980s, yes…. You can check out the videos by various comedians at the Stand Up For Family website.

Maybe if we all rise up to support such efforts by various companies and individuals who are promoting family values we can see change in this country. Lord knows, we need it. I am SICK of adolescent “humor,” how about you?

There, we learned just about everything there is to know about the Adirondack Park region. The museum had a section dedicated to Lake Placid, a small village in the northern area of the park. Do you remember Lake Placid? The tiny town held the Winter Olympics (in 1932 and 1980). I remember watching the Olympics as a young lady– I am not fond of spectator sports but I love watching the Winter Olympics. I used to watch every figure skating and speed skating competition that I could. How disappointing it was to have to go to school and miss some of the competitions!

This week, I have done a little digging into the games. I found a nice DVD on the history of Lake Placid (“Small Town, Big Dreams” by PBS) and found scads of video clips online of some of my favorite skaters. My son and I watched Scott Hamilton clips for over an hour last night! I always liked Scott Hamilton. He was such an exuberant skater with a touch of humor and goofiness. We found this video of Hamilton and Kurt Browning (another very entertaining skater) and LOVED IT! I don’t often post videos here, but this one is really worth watching. The final 3 minutes are hilarious and the skating is nothing short of stunning. Enjoy!

I also found this video. It’s of Kurt Browning (a much younger man here) skating to Singing in the Rain. WOW!!!

Isn’t that a funny video?! It took FOREVER to load, though. Thank God people don’t send earthquake news via YouTube, or we’d be still waiting for the buffering…. :hmph:

Twitter IS pretty speedy. Quite a number of times, I’ve gotten up-to-date news that was not available anywhere. When we had the bad flooding last week and roads were closing and landslides were, uh, landsliding, I was glued to Twitter. My local news station was reporting instant updates and it was SWEET.
