Well, I have to say that I am REALLY loving my new account with Hostgator web hosting service!! I have not gotten one single “CPU Quota Exceeded” error ever! When I was with Bluehost, I got them ALL THE TIME. :-p I am really pleased with Hostgator. Their cPanel is great and they have a very good page of video tutorials that have come in very handy. I just wanted to recommend them if you are looking for a good hosting company. One of my blogging friends recently switched, and she too had great success. Her blogs were up in a matter of a day or two. I am really wowed by Hostgator. I have an affiliate with them, too, so if you ever decide to go with Hostgator, maybe you’d consider using my affiliate link? It costs you nothing to use my affiliate link, but I can earn $50. I’d be happy to help you out with any questions or give you any tech support that I can, if it comes to that. I’m not an expert or anything (don’t ask me for travel insurance quotes, either!), but I know my way around and I’ve helped a few people along the way. Well, my affiliate link badge is in my sidebar– it’s the cute alligator button to the left. Use it if you want. :D

So I love Hostgator! Thumbs up to this great company!

Well hopefully no one noticed, but I just changed web hosts today, after spending more than a MONTH reading tutorials and about 24 hours of hair-tearing, sob-mopping agony.

more animals

In the end, it all went through seamlessly. Thanks to the Bluehost tech support. They have really good tech support. If you want to consider them for hosting, let me know, because I have an affiliate link and I can earn some money for referring you. :D

The online tutorials STINK, ya know that? I mean, do a search for “how to switch web hosts” and get a billion results. Few are coherent, fewer have images, and some of these article writers needs to realize that we average people don’t know what all those technical terms and words mean! UGH! The best tutorial I found is here, and he did a great job making it simple. However, I still had a problem because I didn’t create my database and user first, I transferred my existing domain over to create sub files that way. So I hit a snag when it came to changing the wp-config file.

Oh my gosh, I’m starting to speak like a geek! I’m sorry!!!

OK, well anyway… we’ll see how this blog does with Bluehost. When I first signed up with them for my other blogs, I had a lot of CPU Quota Exceeded errors. I mean, A LOT. I haven’t had any in a few months now. This blog gets a lot of traffic (20,000-30,000 a month if no one Stumbles me), and I’m a little nervous adding it to Bluehost. My previous web host, WizzerdWerks, was outstanding in performance, but it was too expensive ($50 for one year for my one domain) and they have no telephone tech support. If Bluehost bombs on me, I’m off to Hostgator. I’ve been seriously considering going to Hostgator for a while, but wanted to get closer to my yearly account expiration date with Bluehost before taking the leap. The realization that I will have to transfer SIX blogs to a new web host is extremely daunting, and I’ve been procrastinating.

Anyway, I’m here. It’s over. I survived and my blog did not self-destruct. Hear me *SIGH* with great relief.

Is it just the season? A conspiracy? Or just a massive wave of ineptitude and error? I have been having a good share of web hosting problems this summer and fall… and a lot of my friends have been, too. There’s been a massive shift of some people in my online community from one host (which started out good but went downhill) to another, more reliable company. How I wish I’d known about WebHostingGeeks and their web hosting blog before I got started choosing my web hosts. A good friend had once told me not to “put all my eggs in one basket,” but web hosting can be pretty expensive! I have accounts with two different companies, but now I’m starting to think I need to have another under my belt. It is tough for us “little guys” when hosting goes down or there is a technical problem. I have been trying to earn as much as I can about the ropes of hosting, but I’m really still at the mercy of tech support (and they aren’t always helpful).

I have found the Internet to be absolutely essential. When I have a problem or an issue, the first thing I do is search online. Web Hosting Geeks has some really helpful articles, tips, and reviews. They rate and review domain companies and hosting companies, have loads of information on hosting, marketing, and other interesting articles related to websites. I have them bookmarked for those “down” days and also because I am now shopping around for hosting companies.

I must be CRAZY but I am thinking of starting up another blog. Yes, yes, I’m crazy! I already have, what, seven that I already post to, but I really have ten total. I just love writing! Anyway, I’m wanting to experiment with a different web host. One of my wise friends had told me not to have “all of my eggs in one basket.” I currently have Bluehost for my main blogs. They have good tech support, but… they have a lousy CPU quota limitation. And if ONE of my blogs goes down, they ALL go down, because they are on the same account. I cannot relay to you how much I think that stinks! I wish I had seen this article before I went with them:

If you are building on a shared server that is hosting a number of other sites, the performance of your site may eventually endure issues and thus function much slower. This is because the server uses CPU to compensate for each individual site on the server. Shared hosts with limited resources typically monitor CPU usage and restrict those use too much.

Now I find out. :-p

So, I’m looking for options and am scouring web host rating websites. Check out that site, it looks terrific! I have bee reading the articles and already I feel my brain getting smarter. They say that Globat is one of the best budget web hosting companies; I’d never heard of them before, so I’m glad I checked.

Feel free to leave a comment about your web hosting company and how you rate it. I’m weighing all my options! <

My web hosting service for my four other blogs was down AGAIN today. Thanks to you Entrecards droppers who sent me a message. I sure appreciate that. :D

I’m in desperate need of finding a new web host. I keep procrastinating about it. It is such a pain to transfer everything! I need all the help I can get! I’m grateful for the Web Hosting Geeks- they have the most comprehensive list and details of the best web hosting on the ‘Net. The Web Hosting Geeks have everything organized in lists (I love these guys): by rating, by awards, by reviews, and by resources. The reviews, many submitted by customers, are especially enlightening.

I’m going to go over every company on their list, one by one, and figure out which one I will choose. I was guaranteed 99.9% uptime by my current web host, but I think I am getting only like 85% uptime. That’s lousy. :-p

How about you? Are you happy with your web host? See how they rate at the Web Hosting Geeks! Think you’ll be surprised? <

Well, as regular readers know, I’ve been quite vocal about my unhappiness with my current web host (start with a B and rhymes with toast). I’ve been shopping around for a few weeks now. Switching hosts is SUCH a PAIN in the rear, but I think I really have to do it. I’m sick of the “cpu exceeded quota” errors and the “page not found” errors when someone Stumbles me. And if I think of all the downtime I’ve had with them… it’s a LOT more than their advertised 99% uptime! I think I only get about 85-90% uptime with them on my blogs! Grrrrr.

Has anyone heard of Network Solutions? I checked out their site and they look like a reliable web hosting provider. You can have 50 GB disk space and 50 FTP accounts with them for about $14 a month!!! Wow. They guarantee 99.9% uptime– that makes my heart skip a little beat. Wow, imagine, having your websites up most of the time, lol! Network Solutions also won the Find My Host Editor’s Choice Award for June 2008.

If you have Network Solutions, would you please leave a comment? I’d really like to know about your experience. If they are as great as they look, I just may go with them. Thanks! <
