My son has been doing a very intense writing course in English. The book has him do maybe a dozen little paragraphs every day. He’s tired of writing paragraphs (even though I tell him that’s what I do all day long, too!) and his writing has become a bit droll. As I was proofreading another one of his assignments, one that required him to describe his hometown, I almost hit the floor laughing when I got to his final summary “…and so the dinky little dot on the map of New York is where I live. The End.” LOL!!

In another paragraph about going to Walmart, he dryly wrote:

Walking through Walmart may not be as easy or relaxing as one might think. First there are the children sneezing on everything in sight like some kind of lawn sprinkler. Second there are crabby people whooshing their carts around as if no one else in the world exists. The dry air and cramped aisles make one as thirsty as a camel in the desert. Often times some 80′s song is playing, adding to the chaos. All these combined make my skin crawl; however, one can chose to be joyful, and will often be given plenty of space if one chooses to do so.

LOL!! Think he has a career in blogging?

I have a new little buddy. I picked up the cutest little stuffed animal while browsing stores. I saw it and my heart melted. Isn’t it adorable?!

I carry the little lamb around the house. It fits perfectly in my hand, and so I nuzzle it from time to time as if it was a kitten. Livvy the Cat has expressed only banal interest. She sniffs it heartily, then turns away, disinterested. I carry it around in my shirt pocket, or perch it atop my computer monitor during the day. I like it. It’s the next best thing to having another kitten (something we can’t have right now).

ALL. DAY. LONG.

I write for a few companies, and then there’s my neato new blog, The Older Geek, which I love. Sometimes, I am given ideas as assignments. Most of the time, I have to come up with my own.

:bangwall: Well guess what I’m doing these days?!

NOTHING! You’re right! I have run dry on ideas. So I’m asking for help from you guys. Can you guys give me some ideas? Ask me anything, anything you want to know how to do. I will research them and try to write about it. I especially like to write computer and software how-to articles. You can take a peek at The Older Geek for some examples. I also like to write about home improvement, and gardening, and other stuff.

Could you please take a minute and give me some ideas? You can email me or leave a comment here. Ask as many questions as you like, the more the merrier. I’ll let you know when I have completed them!

Every good writer needs a cat, especially a polydactyl cat. Cats cultivate creativity, didn’t you know?

Cats sit in front of you while you work, clogging up your computer monitor and keyboard with silky cat fur. Dogs don’t do that.

Cats nuzzle your chin and sweetly beg for requited love when you’ve got a deadline to meet. Dogs don’t do that.

Cats fit on the very small areas of your desk without knocking things over (uh, most of the time). Most dogs can’t do that.

Cats sit on top of your calendar and bat your sticky notes around. Dogs don’t do that. (Dogs just eat the calendars and sticky notes.)

Can you see Livvy’s polydactyl paw? She’s a real special cat, a writer’s cat! ;) All the more toes to bat the sticky notes!

The cat and “mouse.” So perfect together. “Dog and mouse” just don’t have that creative cadence to it.

Yep, every writer needs a cat. And good writers have lots of cats. Just recall Ernest Hemingway and his houseful of polydactyl cats– his writing abilities multiplied every time he acquired another cat, did you know that?

I think one polydactyl cat is enough for me (right now). Alack, I’m doomed to a mediocre writing career. But at least my house won’t smell like pervasive cat litter….
