The Cost of Citizenship

November 14, 2008

America, home of the free, land of the brave. I am SO grateful to be an American citizen. I know we have our problems here, but there is no other nation ever in world history that has afforded its citizens such freedom and prosperity. But freedom does come at a cost– the cost of “eternal vigilance,” as Thomas Jefferson put it.

Our country has seen an attack on its economy and economic infrastructure. For decades, our jobs and economy has been outsourced by greedy politicians and corporations, and we watch as it all comes crumbling down around us. The politicians and corporations are not going to save us, they are not going to help us. We have to be Americans and take matters into our own hands, and rebuild community and national ties again. It’s really up to us. Helping your neighbors is just one aspect. Consider another– the Rebuilding of America project. These people are trying to garner interest in their vision of rebuilding communities. One thing they are doing is reviving foreclosed properties and turning them into productive commercial properties. They are looking for investors and interested people, and the investments are perfectly affordable for the “average joe” like you and me– just $25. Think of what $25 can buy! Today, it’s a pizza, but it could actually be a piece of the puzzle that rebuilds our country! I’ve given $25 lots of times to those people in need (like the Voice of the Martyrs organization) and these kinds of offerings are definitely worthwhile investments!

For this particular project, $25 will buy you a Certificate of Deposit (its FDIC insured, by the way) and give you a shared interest in the redevelopment– and reownership– of American properties. This will also help employ the millions of American who have lost jobs because of things like outsourcing and the economic problems. The Rebuilding of America project is the brainchild of a family-owned business, and I think it’s a cool idea. Check out this link to learn more about them. One way or another, it’s up to US to rebuild America!
