TWFW: Teach Your Children Well

February 11, 2009

Then a new king, who did not know about Joseph, came to power in Egypt. “Look,” he said to his people, “the Israelites have become much too numerous for us. Come, we must deal shrewdly with them or they will become even more numerous and, if war breaks out, will join our enemies, fight against us and leave the country.” So they put slave masters over them to oppress them with forced labor… Exodus 1:8-11

O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old- what we have heard and known, what our fathers have told us.

We will not hide them from their children; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which he commanded our forefathers to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children.

Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget his deeds but would keep his commands. Psalm 78:1-7

Those two sections of scripture often come to my mind, but especially now. For Americans, our form of government and everything that made our country great is crumbling before our eyes. The process has been ongoing for a long time, perhaps as long as 100 years ago. But now that the very elementary foundations are being removed, the catastrophe is imminent. From the stupid “bailout” that completely kills the free market system, to the fabled “separation of church and state” that has nothing to do with American government, to the excessive obsession with celebrities, this is proof that parents have neglected their responsibility to pass on the knowledge and obligations due a free nation.

Today, everyone hollers “separation of church and state” when a nativity scene is erected on public grounds. But did you know that the phrase “separation of church and state” does not exist ANYWHERE in our founding documents? Do you know where it comes from? A letter by Thomas Jefferson to Baptists, telling them that government has no right to dictate the free exercise of any denomination in this country. But are the correct things being taught to our children? No. On the contrary, the kids are taught to believe ANYTHING the government and its school system says. And parents hardly issue a peep. It’s gotten to bad from generation to generation that we have completely lost our spiritual moorings in this country, the very moorings that CREATED this country in the first place!

Is it too late? I don’t know. With God, all is possible. And as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. But until enough parents start taking back their God-given responsibility to train up their own children in the truth- the truth of the Bible and the truth about our history– we will only continue to see this downward spiral. At no other time in history are so many brainwashed by so few so quickly….

Hello. Great post, and great point.

I recently posted a video at The Foundation Forum, showing that finally, influential Christian conservatives are beginning to see the light. I found it very encouraging.

    Happy TWFW!!

Ah, Rebecca, this is all so true. I wonder, though, how many parents have been so completely brainwashed that it wouldn’t occur to them to question the status quo? And it will only get worse if Obama has his way to start “teaching” all children at age 3 or 4.

Thanks for posting. Hopefully some parents will have ears to hear.

I wish the government would see “Separation of church and state” as you described it here, but seriously doubt that will ever happen. It’s so good to see others who still proclaim the truth of God’s word. Teaching children about following God is a parent’s responsibility. Unfortunately, so many parents don’t even do this so how can they possibly teach their children to?

    Thanks for your comments.

Karen, I do believe that things will change. It changed from right to wrong! It can change from wrong to right! But the change won’t come from the government (never does); it will come from the American people.

I am afraid that we are allowing the government to set our kids up with a whole lot of debt. They may never be able to own a home or start a business. Sad.
