Every time I read this verse it evokes humility and awe, what a precious gift.

Jhn 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.

Gratitude was my over-whelming emotion when I first got saved, and I hope to never lose that. It's why I've claimed the following scripture for myself (and my blog):

I say to you, her sins,
which are many,
have been forgiven.
Luke 7:47

What an amazing, and completely undeserved, thing it is.

I try to explain to some of my relatives that there was such a relief when I became Christian. It is just that the message of doing works, etcetera to try to be good enough to achieve a reward versus doing works because you have something and want to share the joy are two very differing concepts. It is being inspired versus trying desperately to have enough brownie points.

Thanks for the reminder, today.

Thank you for this post. It is very encouraging and so freeing. Jesus did everything for us. All we have to do is simply accept it and live in the freedom He gives us. We don't have to struggle by ourselves trying to be perfect, we can simply accept His free gift of righteousness and walk in it. When I was reading your post, I remembered something James Kennedy said. (And I will adapt it to fit this post) If you don't thank God for righteousness, you probably don't have it. (He used eternal life in his example.) How often do we thank God for what He has done for us? We can live in the freedom God gives us and thank Him that He has already done what we could never do!

I absolutely love that song, by the way. What an awesome lyrics!

What you say is very good, Jim. But I was referring to dying to oneself--to the flesh-- and walking in the newness of life (Romans 6). :)

<i>"Make no mistake, this is a death sentence. ;)"</i>

I appreciate your lightheartedness there; and, at the same time, what you say is very true. We have a complicated relationship with death. It's the enemy; it's our shameful penalty for sin; it's altogether bad ... except that it's redeemed by our Lord, who surrendered Himself to it and, in so doing, conquered it completely. And in this, I think, as in everything else, we are to follow Him. The older I get, the more it seems to me that a large portion of our life's business here on earth is the practice of death and loss. And yet somehow, that's all right. Somehow, it's even good ... just because He walked this way before us.

Fine post -- but the comment's what really resonates with me. Weird, huh?

Hi Rebecca!
Excellent Word for Wednesday, as always! I don't really have anything to add, but I have been thinking more than ever (especially when I read passages like that) that God is soooooo good! Many times we take God for granted, or we think that whatever happens is His will. But Jesus came that we may have life more abundantly! God is so good, and it's amazing how He demonstrates that towards us when we choose to follow Him!

God bless!
Jay

P.S. That is my favorite song in the entire world!!!

Make no mistake, this is a death sentence. ;)

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20
