Yogi Berra Appreciation Day!

July 27, 2009

I don’t know FOR SURE if today is *really* Yogi Berra Appreciation Day (I don’t even know if there IS a Yogi Berra Appreciation Day), but on a whim this morning, I posted a few cute Yogi Berra quotes on Twitter. Fellow Twitterer Symposio caught wind, and created a special post to celebrate. Totally tickled me pink. And through these occurrences, I discovered two things:

  • 1. There is actually someone else out there with my wacky, Yogi-loving sense of humor. Yay! :jittery:
  • 2. Twitter is a REALLY cool Start-A-New-Wacky-Fad Tool. :bop:

So without further ado, here are my contributions for our Yogi Berra Appreciation Day. Feel free to post your own favorite quotes here in the comments or at your own blog!

“Always go to other people’s funerals, otherwise they won’t come to yours.”

“Half the lies they tell about me aren’t true.”

“He hits from both sides of the plate. He’s amphibious.”

Someone told Yogi that was was so cool! He replied, “Thanks, you don’t look so hot yourself!”

“I never blame myself when I’m not hitting. I just blame the bat and if it keeps up, I change bats. After all, if I know it isn’t my fault that I’m not hitting, how can I get mad at myself?”

“I think Little League is wonderful. It keeps the kids out of the house.”

“Nobody goes there anymore; it’s too crowded.”

Once, Yogi’s wife Carmen, asked, “Yogi, you are from St. Louis, we live in New Jersey, and you played ball in New York. If you go before I do, where would you like me to have you buried?” Yogi replied, “Surprise me.”

Someone once asked Yogi for the time. He answered, “Do you mean now?”

“I wish I had an answer to that because I’m tired of answering that question.”

“I’m not going to buy my kids an encyclopedia. Let them walk to school like I did.”

“It’s never happened in the World Series competition, and it still hasn’t.”

“If you ask me anything I don’t know, I’m not going to answer.”

Disclaimer: I am not 100% sure that each and every word is actually Yogi Berra’s. But because these quotes are commonly associated with being Yogi Berra’s, I think they qualify. And if you think they are not Yogi Berra’s, then maybe he knew what was going to happen, and then never said this, either:

“I never said most of the things I said.”

Yeah! He’s so funny. He has always had the knack for one liners. He’s an American hero, that’s for sure. They just don’t make them like that anymore Frugal. Nice post again.

My best to you always. Marc šŸ˜›
